This damn thing probably wouldn't even fit in RAM on ANY of my machines. An image that big is a scary thought.
In the article linked from that particular one, apparently 1TB was needed so he get a 2TB. 2 WD 300GB Velociraptor hard drives were inadequate. Used an i7 system with 12GB DDR3 RAM. If I read right, the compile took roughly 3 1/2 hours, even on that system.

I would assume that two weeks rendering would be a liberal guess with those specs.
Don't worry, though. My Phenom X4 quad-core system probably would take days against something like that. I even have the capacity for it if I set a few drives to RAID 0 and wiped the space.
I love these gigapixel photos, but 45??? Hot diggity, thats a huge picture! I saw the picture on geek.com but could not get to the whole picture on gigapan.org, they're site must be down.
I have an i5 with 4GB DDR3 ram but it would still take a while, as its only the i5 430m

It is also kinda pointless. I mean, what can you really do with a 45gp picture? Not much. (Unless you want to strip a part of it for something, but you might get part of a hair... 100x100px would be nothing.)
You can post it on Gigapan.org for everyone to enjoy! I finally got to see it yesterday... wow that thing is huge. It takes forever to load compared to the other, smaller, gigapixel photos. And this was a good spot it seems, not too close to where you get a lot of ghosting from the people moving around.
