So the beta for this game has been going on for a bit now. And for the lucky, a chance to play it. I was one of those lucky people. The game, fantastic.

Anyone here looking forward to this game's release?

Oh and one more thing, I have two extra codes. First two people that PM me will get them. Good luck.

There's likely no way I'll get away from getting the game, given the nature of the people around here at the office. Likelihood is I'll be getting it when it releases.

Whether or not I play it a lot or not is the better question. I'm not that great at RTSes and the original StarCraft with the Brood War expansion that I had was no different.

I played a bit of this at a friend's house, and it's awesome. My best race can now mind control :3

It's weird, I'm WAAAAY better at SC2 than at Brood War ;;

(One code is gone.)

I just wish there was on offline beta as well. Sometimes playing with people, once they know they're going to lose, they leave.

Uhm...actually, the beta is open for everyone. Forgot to mention. If you pre-order the game from GameStop you'll get beta access. Drop a fiver in-store and get the code to go do battle.

If you do it online, however, you'll have to shell out the whole 60 dollars worth to get the code ahead of time.

Do they say gg before they leave? If so, that's standard procedure.

Otherwise it's a ragequit.

I heard about the Gamestop preorder. They have it so you either have to buy the game or you can't get your money back after you out money on the reserve. Just for those people who want to play the beta, but not buy the game.

99% of the time its ragequit.

I've been wanting to play this ever since they announced the Beta... and as usual I still have yet to be chosen. I tried those damn facebook freebies they were doing but could never type fast enough to put the code in (they were putting up pics on their facebook profile with 10-20 codes in wavy or funky lines and the first people to put them in got to use them). Then they started doing 5 trivia questions and the first 100 people to get all 5 right got keys. I can't see FB at work so I can't actually be on to check when they post them and I don't know 4/5 answers and have to look them up so I probably wouldn't ever be part of the first 100.

So maybe I'll hint to my wife that a SC2 pre-order with beta code would be a good birthday gift.

My wife took my hint, it wasn't very subtle but she bought the pre-order through Gamecrazy and I'm now downloading SC2. Its slow says almost 3 hours. Damn slow blizzard torrent downloaders

But at least I will get to play it.

Yea, it took a few hours when I had to first download it, but it will be worth it.

I found a direct download link, already installing it. Probably a few updates to do before I can play but at least I'm that far ahead now.

Yeah, I'm still trying to get 2 things at once down. I've seen pro players doing almost a dozen things at once. Its crazy.

One hundred and twenty APM suckaz

APM is actions per minute. In pro games, it tends to get REALLY HIGH ;;

If anything, you can pre-order with $5 down and you don't have to buy it later.

I've seen as high as 800, but the problem with actions per minute is that they bloat their numbers by selecting and de-selecting units while nothing is going on. Thats great for numbers, but doesn't do anything for your gameplay. Granted the people who can amass 800 APM can also do some pretty amazing stuff when there is action, haha.

I never recoreded my but its probably about 30-50. I'm still learning the new hotkeys, which slows things down.

800 is definitely too high. The best progamers who actually have control tend to hit around 350-400. If you're hitting over 600, you're probably going too fast and not being efficient.

So, we should probably play this together. I would love to team with some of you guys for 2v2s. Post your name.identifier for the beta in this thread perhaps?

I'm konekotyriin.teamliquid

I have one extra key as well, which I will share with anyone who is badass. It barely matters of course, thanks to the crazy preorder nonsense, but at least I can express respect for badassery. Send me a PM I suppose.

Tyty: sounds like we should have played Broodwar together but missed out; wanna right some great wrongs?

My APM hovered in the 130-150 range in BW but I've gotten lazy in SCII and it's probably more like 100-110 now.

There was this one progamer called Heaven who had ~600 apm but he sucked. It doesn't tell the whole story.

StarCraft/BroodWar is by far the game I played the longest time ever. Unfortunately I didn't get a key for the SCII beta (opt-in), but this may be due to this machine I built in December, as it is just "one of too many". If I maybe hooked up my old rig (old video card, though not even pixel shaders, still enough for things like Half-Life 2 or - with _very_ low FPS, Torchlight), there might have been even chances, if Blizzards probably needed to test the game on the lower end of the hardware scale as well. Nevermind.
While I sometimes have problems to spot the right units in Warcraft III TFT, in BW the graphics are still great - and in SCII the overview seems to be quite well. I will probably use the English hotkeys once available - if you can run the English version without any problems, I will get that version. The localization from the original was done nicely then, but if a Marine or a Zealot dies, this sounds a lot better and funnier in the English one.

And in BW there are so many good funmaps. Now, with the SCII beta editor released, I hope the builders will make good maps for this game (and not DotA-type ones only. Nothing against it, but in TFT there is rarely a good TD game open at times), some Turret Defenses in BW are still fun - and others like Bounds, Desert Strike always make you try once more.

I could preorder it and get a key, yeah, but I'd like to wait a little more. Already had the client to watch replays, when this was possible. The game looks very nice, but either I get a key meanwhile through opt-in or not, I will definitively buy this when the first game will be released. Although the three games plus maybe even additional expansions might come with a hefty price tag.
