So maybe some of you still haven't heard (should have, it happened quite a while ago) but Arizona passed a a bill against immigration that forced Mexico to warn its citizens about the state ... yeah:

PHOENIX — Many of the cars that once stopped in the Home Depot parking lot to pick up day laborers to hang drywall or do landscaping now just drive on by.

Arizona's sweeping immigration bill allows police to arrest illegal immigrant day laborers seeking work on the street or anyone trying to hire them. It won't take effect until summer but it is already having an effect on the state's underground economy.

"Nobody wants to pick us up," Julio Loyola Diaz says in Spanish as he and dozens of other men wait under the shade of palo verde trees and lean against a low brick wall outside the east Phoenix home improvement store.

Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law, which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

Then we get this nightmare:

PHOENIX – Arizona lawmakers expressing doubt over whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States are pushing a bill through the Legislature that would require the president to show his birth certificate to get on the state's 2012 ballot.

The House passed the measure Wednesday on a 31-29 vote, ignoring protests from opponents who said it's casting Arizona in an ugly light and could give the elected secretary of state broad powers to kick a presidential candidate off the ballot.

"We're becoming a national joke," Rep. Chad Campbell, a Phoenix Democrat who opposes the measure, said Thursday.

The measure's sponsor, Republican Rep. Judy Burges of Skull Valley, said she isn't sure Obama could prove his eligibility for the ballot in Arizona and wants to erase all doubts.

A guy running for governor in Georgia has already said if elected he would try to replicate Arizona's law in Georgia.

Don't forget the neighbors, namely Nevada's senate canidate (hopign to replace ol' Harry Reid) who happily said you should pay for your health care in chickens.

The end? Unlikely. You forget how insane politicians were in the McCarthy era.

The only news I ever hear about Mexico any more is bad news. Drug cartels have more or less taken over, random kidnappings and randoms abound.

You know, Hawaii is actually passing legislation which allows the state to ignore repeated requests for birth certificates. All because of this.

I don't remember how many e-mail requests they get a week, but it was some absurdly high number.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Australia. I don't see any HUGELY wrong things with it (like not being devastated by war, etc), and they speak English.

If I learn Japanese, I might go to Japan. Because Japan is awesome.

Just hope you don't run into these things...

Although Arizona is definitely off the list of places I want to go to again as long as this is in effect there.

As much as I love Japan, it isn't remotely close to being racism free.

This is what happens when you take a quote out of context and don't follow up if you aren't sure what they meant. She was talking about a barter system, not just chickens.

Definitely not England, they're not much better off than us. We have plenty of members in Canada, we could just room with them!

Or we could all just move to Jamaica and start our own fishing company.
