My brother will use the windows classic theme over any modern theme anyday, he doesn't like change and he perfers to keep his setup just the way it is. Even if he does upgrade from XP someday he's still keeping classic, though he isn't going to be happy when he finds out that the windows classic start menu has been removed from Windows 7.

I actually liked XP's Start menu (combined with the theme I used it was downright sexy), and Vista/7's search/run feature is fairly nice. I rarely actually used it though because Quick Launch was so much more convenient (and if you have the taskbar at the side of the screen you can stick TONS of icons there). I hate that 7 removed such a useful feature.

I used to have my taskbar on the left side of my screen with 'tclock' and having lots of space for all my quicklaunch icons was actually useful. Lately I'm finding myself using the pinned taskbar icons of Windows 7 more and more and I hated having that search bar in my start menu so I removed the search feature and all is good for me since I can still use the classic 'run...' box at my convenience.

You know 1 Windows change that I never adjusted to or took advantage of? The premade document folders like (My) Documents, (My) Pictures, etc. I always organized my files my own way, usually in desktop folders or a shared partition. I get very annoyed when programs default to My Documents when opening or saving files.

I hated the 'My' prefix that microsoft added in to those special shell folders. Personally I never use those folders, instead I have my own folder and subfolders for my own data and as stupid as this sounds I keep them on the root of my 'C' Drive, a stupid idea I know but I'm used to the old behaviour and the old ways of browsing, not even the libraries feature of Windows 7 could sway me away from my old browsing habits.

Same here. If a program forces data into there, fine; otherwise I'll use my own folders, thank you very much.

There's actually an option buried in some control panel somewhere to change the locations of those, but of course Windows programs like to assume things are left to their default settings and probably won't respect your change.

As for interface changes on Windows, I hate that they've changed the "up" button to "back" in Vista explorer. I mean, folders aren't web sites! They changed how backspace functions too. That annoys the hell out of me.

I never liked how Explorer introduced the distinction between "back" and "up", then dropped the "up" which I actually find quite useful in favour of the confusing "back".

Yeah, on 1 of my old computers I got so fed up that I remapped My Documents to F:\, but I still never used the Documents folder to access it, preferring an F drive shortcut on my desktop. Also, Windows would force My Music and My Pictures folders to be put in there against my will. I tried to trick it with empty files with those names, but Windows renamed them to have 000 extensions.

Speaking of extensions, why does Windows hide them by default?

Probably because microsoft thinks that its best that we 'PC users' do not know about such things, but hiding them (to me) is just an annoyance, not to mention that if a user gets tricked into opening an email attachment into thinking its a jpg when its actually an exe, hiding extensions has many drawbacks and microsoft should know this by now.

On another note, I hate that those other 'My' folders forced upon me too and for that I just hide those stupid folders, though I've been tempted to do something about those folders lately.

Also, hiding extensions can cause programs to insist on adding their preferred extension to files, resulting in stuff like hello.php.txt and me.jpg.bmp.

Hmmm, has this thread turned into "Let's complain about Windows."?

Haha I noticed this too when reading through this thread as I post, definitely not just about the youtube layout anymore.

My biggest beef is the change of the homepage. (Though not everyone reports this change apparently. )

They changed it to a feed sort of thing. Apparently they want to copy facebook. The biggest issue that I have is that subscriptions have no priority over any over your friends, and also that it shows their ratings and favorites and stuff. It's incredibly annoying to quickly locate my subscription uploads. Another issue I have is that though the quicklist feature is still there to add videos to your quicklist by clicking the button on the video thumbnails, there is no longer any link to my quicklist on the main page. (Or the video page for that matter.)

In short, Youtube, like seemingly everyone else, forgot what they actually are (i.e. a video site) and tried and failed to become a social network. Man, that trend is annoying.

Yep.

I was annoyed when AIM tried to do this. It loses some privacy. I don't really want everyone knowing what videos I watch or who all my AIM buddies are.

Yeah its really stupid how other big named corporations follow the trend because of some website was supposedly innovative which of course isn't the case to me.

And they changed the video player again. I swear they change that thing every two weeks.

Doesn't look that bad, just different.

I'm actually surprised that the new player worked fine on 98SE... I was expecting it to not work on 98SE (or 2000), but I guess YouTube still supports Flash 9 for now. =P
