So, I come to find out that I missed a calculus test yesterday, mostly because I haven't gone in the past couple of weeks because all my teacher does is regurgitate the book back at us (time is better spent sleeping, or teaching myself from the book).

After finding this out, sheer panic ensues. Apparently my face was priceless.

I know this isn't the end of the world, and that one utterly failed test isn't going to change the course of my life, but it's kinda hard to see that as of right now.

What big "oopsies" have you made? I need to put this test in perspective, to stop beating myself up about it, and to move on (so I can study for the final next week). I know eventually I'll look back on this and maybe laugh at myself, but as of right now, it isn't very funny.

Maybe seeing other people's "oops" moments will help me to get over this more quickly, and to realize that I'm going to recover from shock/panic (hopefully before finals next week )

I'm not as perfect as you may think... (directed at Liz).

Most recently?

Bad ground going into a DOS system. Electrical problem we've had upstairs.

Why's that bad? Went to turn on the system from the power supply with the switch in the back and...

'Okay, time to turn the pow-[POP!]-FUCK!'

Yea everyone heard me when that happened. PSU bit the dust right then and there. Luckily nothing caught on fire.

Similar to that was when my dual-core/mobo to it bit the dust. Powered on, POP hit my 2.1 450W system and light show erupted from the tower itself on the panel. Nice blue streak. .8 seconds and I was on the ground unplugging everything and surveying the damage. Processor meltdown and inducer blow on the mobo...literally looked like black crap on the green PCB and had actually burned into it, it was that bad.

We tend to call those OHNOSECONDS over here. That instant that you go 'OH @#*%!!!'.

I might be able to salvage this.

I looked at the syllabus, and it doesn't say I can't retake the test (double negative). I sent the following email. Hopefully he'll be nice...

Hi

Right now, I am full of panic.

A friend who is in the class said that yesterday we had a test. I'm not sure if he was serious, and I'm really hoping that he said that just so that he could see the shocked expression on my face (which he got).
Is this true? And if so, is there anything that I can do to make it up/ do extra credit?
I know that as the teacher, you are not obligated to show mercy on your students/ allow make-ups. But you would have my everlasting gratitude if you would permit this.

Sincerely
