I am going to be studying for my CompTIA certificates this summer and I was wondering how many of you have some sort of IT certificate? How hard were they to get? And can you point me to any really good resources for studying?

Bleh...studying...

My high school AP computers class had a portion that was geared toward getting an A+ certification, but I never got around to getting it. I wish I had though

I'm still kinda studying for mine too as well (I guess there's another name for A+ Certification too if I'm correct), and perhaps a wikipedia page may be in order for studying?

Though there are probably some more reliable sources, thought I'd suggest wikipedia anyways.

I took CCNA in my first year of community college. Never took the final exam (since it was pretty much optional for me).
I took Hardware (CompTIA A+). Never took the final one either.

I am pretty sure that if I needed to get the certification to graduate, I would've been told this already.

WHMIS + OHS. THAT I need to get done in the next month.

*Lain sighs
I feel kind of bad for not getting the certs now.

MCTS in Windows Vista
MCP in Windows Server 2003

I'm one test away from MCSA status, but I didn't manage to pass it at the time. I got these enrolling in Computertraining.com. Probably wouldn't have ever thought about getting these unless I had taken the program. Someday I'll retake the ISA2004 test and pass it to get MCSA, though.

Zero certs here, mostly out of expense.

Although with what I know from this job I could easily get a few now. Probably could've got A+ cert before too...just haven't taken the time because I've got a job in the field now and didn't really need to show proof.

Course, if it ever comes down to me having to move on to another job, that thought process will likely be reconsidered.

The reason I am focusing on certs is because I have discovered that I am not a student and if I want to make a decent living in the IT field it is very helpful to have them. They not only boost your pay but also set you above the other slobs out there vying for your position. I have a list of the ones that I am planning on getting in the next six months. They are all from CompTIA: A+, Network+, and Security+

As long as you find your entrance, that's good.

Pretty much what it took for me was luck and working two entry-level jobs at once and one of them happened to be techie and these guys were looking for 'entry-level' here.

Now I'm in the process (right now, in fact) of rewiring and ESAB retrofit with six oxy torches...possibly, we've said at least four. Depends on what we can salvage.

It's more dull/exciting than it sounds, depending on your tastes. Better than any job I've had so far, at least.
