Zelda

Zelda is not a 2D plattformer... (except the second, but that doesn't count...)

I can barely tolerate the N64/Gamecube/Wii implementations of those games.

Favorite Mario game: Super Mario Brothers 3 (NES)
Favorite Zelda game: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Game Boy)

Neither series plays very well in 3D; the fun factor takes a dive when implemented as such.

ALSO: Zelda 2 does count! It's my second favorite in the series!

Well, to each his or her own. I find that the 3D element adds a whole new variety of ways to play the game.

Well, besides the fact that it adds one whole new dimension...

The extra dimension is entirely unnecessary, thank you. It adds unneeded complication to an otherwise fantastic series. Case in point, Metroid.

I actually love the Metroid Prime games, though Super Metroid will remain my favorite. Its a fun game to hack.

How much more complicated did it make it, exactly?

The one thing I remember hating about 2D metroids was the unnecessary use of HIDDEN BLOCKS AND PASSAGES to throw an extra twist in. AKA, wild goose hunts.

It is, though much harder than Super Mario World.

Speaking of Super Metroid hacking, I wonder how Jathys and Kejardon are doing on their hacks?

Jathys' site has said that teasers for Alliance will be leaked someday soon for like a year now.

you do realise that the 2 are very slow when it comes to progress.

Oh, I don't know... let's see...

1) The possibility of danger approaching from a third direction
2) The addition of clunky camera controls (which nobody has been able to perfect at all)

As for the second point, I quite enjoy the wild goose chase, especially since the feeling of accomplishment for finding something when you probably shouldn't have, a.k.a. sequence breaking. It's things like this that make a game actually ENJOYABLE.

Yeah I know. I just like seeing releases of Super Metroid hacks. It's my favorite game to play hacks of.
Have there been any new additions to your list since about 6-7 months ago? I think that was the last time I looked.

There hasn't been anything new Super Metroid wise. However, Zero Fission is up to at least 1.5 and people are beggining to make really good Zero Mission hacks. ZF should be MF ready sometime in the near future.

Cool. I'll have to take a look sometime. Zero Mission looks more accessible than SM.

We hope to get Fusion hackable soon, but it is currently suffering under a major clipdata pothole problem as shown in the MF test hack download on the main page of my site. It all goes BAD once you enter SRX.

1) What's the problem with danger from another direction? All it does is add another direction you need to look for. Oh and besides constant danger, there might be something good hidden in that third dimension as well.
2) The Prime cameras were done quite nicely for a FPA. I dont exactly know your definition of perfect though.

As for sequence breaking, someone hasnt played Prime 1 very much.

I'm not focusing on MP, though it is rather large target for my hate. This applies to nearly all 3D game, first person or not.

And you're right, I've only played a little bit of a demo of MP in a Toys'R'Us once. Decided I didn't like it one bit. Besides the fact that it's supposedly Samus, there is absolutely nothing that screams "This is a Metroid game!" from this horrific branch of the series.

*sigh*

I'm tired of making this arguement. I've gone over so much over the last couple of days, though in a different forum, mind you. I've encountered the exact same hero worship of these game here as I did there...

The sequence breaking in Prime was more dependant on whether or not you had the first version of the game because Retro fixed most of the problems, like the famous get Plasma Beam before Thardus.
