As for the second point, I quite enjoy the wild goose chase, especially since the feeling of accomplishment for finding something when you probably shouldn't have, a.k.a. sequence breaking.
1) What's the problem with danger from another direction? All it does is add another direction you need to look for. Oh and besides constant danger, there might be something good hidden in that third dimension as well.
2) The Prime cameras were done quite nicely for a FPA. I dont exactly know your definition of perfect though.
As for sequence breaking, someone hasnt played Prime 1 very much.
