Wordart was never used much by me either, it never suited my tastes as I never had no need for such a thing.

Although I did like making fancy looking effects when I used gradient on a different layer in GIMP for a font, yes I tried making a black bordered font with a glass effect once before.

I like Arial.

Times New Roman, however, is bland as hell and I just cannot stand it after all these years.

Not so much a font issue as a web design issue, but to everyone who has ever set the font colour but not the background colour, or vice-versa, because you assumed the user's defaults would be black on white: FFFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK YYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

THIS THIS THIS 100 TIMES THIS! That shit drives me nuts, because I want a nice theme that doesn't burn my retinas but then some website will screw that all up.. but it's not always websites, either. Some PROGRAMS will do this too!

I don't understand why they wanted to take the white paper with white text metaphor over to monitors. The one place I could see it being useful is for publishing and MAYBE word processing, but it's not even really necessary there. Otherwise it's a nuisance. All the common old OSes started with white fucking windows and black text. UGH. For devices that provide their own back lighting, light on dark. For devices that don't (paper, kindle/ereaders, gameboys) dark on light. Simple concept but some dumbasses back in the day thought different and fucked up everything forever.

Seconding every bit of this. If I have a choice, it's white on black. Black on white hurts my eyes. No matter what it's printed on.

Yep, I agree with HH as well.

I don't understand why OSes decided to mimic paper colours for everything. Maybe they thought they were extending the WYSIWYG word-processing concept. I find dark backgrounds much easier on the eyes.

The early Internet had a lot of light-on-dark, but it faded away over time, and I had a teacher who said we couldn't use light-on-dark.

Fun fact: I have a book that's printed light-on-dark, believe it or not. It's a Zelda strategy guide of some kind, I think for Oracles.

I found it impossible to use dark themes in Win9x because some of the components built into Windows had this problem.

He would threaten to give you a fail grade for the entire class if you used WordArt. Again I think this is reasonable in a typography design class; there are actual legitimate reasons NOT to use most of the above fonts other than all of them being way overused.

Last I heard he added Calibri to the list of forbidden fonts mainly because it's the Office 2007 default. _

Sounds like the typographer Hitler. Eventually more obscure fonts will be banned, until one day only one remains.

Wingdings.

My most hated fonts... are Comic Sans (for obvious reasons), Times New Roman (Word Default. ugh. ) and Arial (never seemed to display properly, or print, for that matter.)
As for favorites, I love Calibri, even though it's the Word 2007 default.

I forgot all about Calibri, that font was a good font too, another font I liked was the 'ff meta' font, the same font that mozilla firefox uses for their logos and such stuff.

I don't really have any personal grudges against most fonts, but there will be times when fonts like times new roman start to annoy me after a certain amount of time, the windows 'system' font hasn't manage to annoy me though, at least not yet anyways.

I tend to use Verdana for anything that I don't want to spiff up graphically. My favorite non-regular font would be Runic MT Condensed, AKA Final Fantasy Font.

Calibri is nice too, definitely my favorite of all of the Windows 7/Vista fonts... Segoe UI... nah, don't like it that much, and I prefer Tahoma or even MS Sans Serif. =)

I always kind of thought that Tahoma was nice too, though I don't really use that font much, compared to the heavily used Arial that I use the most out of most fonts, simply because I'm used to using that font.

I should maybe start using Calibri more and see what effect that has with font selecting, though I'll probably stay hooked to Arial for a while.
