I've seen a flying toasters screensaver on my teacher's PC in the 11th and 12th grade, apparently he had the AfterDark software back then when windows 98 was still being used throughout the school.

BooUrn's looks really interesting though, too bad it's probably hardcoded to specific things.

I have no screen saver on my laptop, it just goes into sleep mode, but on the home computer I have it show a random image from my Pictures folder.

Visitors have fun guessing what the pictures are. My friend didn't recognize a bed.

Woah, blank screen moment there, I have used that particular screen saver before, but not by much when I learned to simply just turn off the monitor to save electricity.

But I guess that this particular screen saver would be useful for notebook PC's and netbooks, but I wouldn't recommend it when trying to watch a movie or if in a full screen game since screen savers do tend to go all crazy sometimes, least from my experience with windows xp.

I remember this fractal screensaver that I used to have for Windows 95/98 a long time ago... it was in 16 colors and more intended for Windows 3.1x... does anyone remember the name of this? I would love to download it for my Windows 98 machine, to relive some memories of my past... =D

I also had a screensaver called "Gates Does Windows 95", where he bangs on the screen with a hammer, smashing the desktop and putting up the Windows 95 desktop... I think this was also for Windows 3.1x, too... (I've already downloaded this one, since I thought it was a pretty funny screensave back in the day.)

#51
None right now (not even a blank screen), I just turn off the screens whenever I'm away

But I've used them before, long ago:
- On my old Macintosh, Pyro (it had color too)
- On Windows 95, I used the 3D maze with custom images, like a drawing of my computer (which I used as a wallpaper at the time) on the walls
- I used the stars, 3D text and 3D pipes for a while as well
- I had a year 2000 countdown for most of 1999 (just text and a plain background, with the colors slowly changing)

Right now, I use the, uhh, the "Lines" screensaver on Vista. (I don't know the name, it's in Czech. I swear, the next time I install Windows, I'll set the interface to English.)
On the matter, does anyone know of a simple screensaver that just shows the current time ? I don't want FREE Digital Clock Screen Saver 2008 ShareWare. Just something simple, please.

I currently use the BSOD screensaver from the XScreenSaver collection. It simulates a bunch of kernel panics and fatal errors (or similar situations) from various operating systems.

Can't the 3D Text screensaver do that?

It's ugly 3D and moves from side to side, which is annoying.

I take it this was prompted by my recent thread and layout change?

Back when I had Windows 98, I loved to watch those old screensavers. My favorite was the 3D maze, which I've discovered can run at 1280x800 on my monitor if I disable fullscreen. (Yay counter-intuitive options?)

I also liked the Underwater screensaver, and that's where my layout comes from. I discovered recently it still works in Windows XP if you have the right DLLs.

Why, yes it was. (That and Anya's call for threads, anyway.)

I remember the 3D maze on some school computers. I know it started with a Windows Start button.

I had a teacher who had the date on that 3D text thing. It took me a while to figure out what it said from my seat though.

I do recall seeing rats/mice in the maze also when I had the maze screensaver playing, I spotted those little critters a few times.

And I never really bothered with the 3D text thing much, though it was really nice to watch inthe good old days of windows.

Not hard-coded per se, but you do need to be able to SSH into the server in question with a passwordless SSH key and be able to run tail on your log file...

It's here.

I still gotta find good interesting screensavers. I've been meaning to find one that has the melting screen effect, though I haven't been able to find a similar one at all. I would like to be able to get a hold of such a screensaver, and preferably a free one too.

Oh, and today one of the techs was fooling around with one of the screensavers that come with windows 7 and I guess there was a bsod snapshot stored as part of a pictures slideshow, and all of a sudden one of the other techs sees that bsod, only to see it change into something else, it was so funny I thought.
