How do you feel when you're alone in real life?

For me, I feel so unwanted and shitty, like I should be alone or I should be doomed to be alone, and even though I'm not talking about just being online since that doesn't really count for being in physical contact, its just that feeling when one is physically alone in real life and that is exactly how I'm feeling now, since of course I am alone in real life at this very moment.

Feel free to post your thoughts here, unless I just broken a faq rule here.

I like being alone IRL, using my computer to connect with my friends online I often feel uncomfortable if there are people around IRL and I'm doing something (as opposed to just getting somewhere or shopping, etc.). I've lived alone since 2008 and find it hard to adjust when I'm visiting my parents.

Eh. Sometimes I prefer to be alone, it just depends on my mood. Most of the time, there's at least a certain someone I'd rather be with, but that usually isn't even a possibility.

When I am alone, it doesn't really bother me that much, usually. Like I said, it just depends on my mood and the time of day. Sometimes it really gets to me, and I'll just spend the day couped up, sleeping or something.

Depends on the type of alone. There's "lonely" alone, and then there's "I-need-my-space" alone. There are a couple of others too, and some are mixes of others.

Normally, when there's no one else around, I feel peaceful. Kinda like "No one is bugging me, I have no obligations to anyone at this point in time." If someone walks in, I sometimes feel obligated to say hi. Depending on my mood, I'll get annoyed if they take that as a cue to start gossiping about how X and Y did Z over the weekend.

So, at peace, one might say.

I've lived on my own since 2006, and I was living alone for about the first year and a half, until my girlfriend moved in with me... I don't mind being alone in real life, especially since my parents didn't care much about me, and my sister is 7 years younger than me. However, nowadays I'm closer to my sister than just a few years ago, especially since she started college. =D

My girlfriend and I broke up because of space issues (4 people in one apartment, including my cousin and her partner), but then we got back together less than a year later, since I moved to a larger apartment and no longer live with my cousin...

I personally like being alone. I'm an introvert, so I can only really handle so much contact with people. There are definitely times where I feel like I want to be with other people, but it's not really the dominant mood.

I'm an only child, so I'm used to it. Also, I've, conditioned my mind, if you will, to tolerate since at some point we're all alone/feel like we're alone.

Then again, I have cats, so nowadays I really don't feel alone when I am. Pets are a great outlet.

You folks actually like being alone?

Well.. I guess that's understandable when you want time for yourselves for a change, not having to put up with any person and doing what one wants to do when alone.

I'll confess that I do like being alone when I'm at work, that way I don't have to listen to the running mouths of my boss or the other techs, except for when the phones at the tech shop ring of course.

But there will be times when I feel like I want to hug a person, like that's actually ever gonna happen though.. :/

Same thing I felt then. Lonely, with a hint of freedom and determination.

Like, I feel there's some task I've to do alone. A personal quest, so I wish to be able to leave everything behind and get on it.

Of course, there's how there are many things that tie me, in a way not leaving me alone. Which makes me kinda frustrated. So it's not that I like being alone, I WANT to be alone.

No, this has nothing to do with social stuff. This is more of a meta-existencialist nature.

I can never seem to find a happy medium here. When surrounded by friends I'm too shy to speak up but by myself I get lonely and bored. I'm usually happy if somebody is around me but we aren't interacting much.

I suppose I'm just weird like that.

Yep, same with me. Not only that, but my dad worked a lot, my mom usually liked to keep to herself, and neither parent had much of a social life at home compared to some people.

My dad got pissy that I didn't have many friends though, even though I preferred being alone.

Same here. I'm pretty socially awkward with people, and really I tend to just plain not like people in general. I'm a lot more comfortable when I'm by myself than when I'm at social gatherings or loud boisterous places full of people. This is especially true if I'm trying to get something done like make a serious purchase that I need to really think about, or work on an assignment. This is one reason why I like taking online classes, and I absolutely despise things like computer labs. I generally find public environments extremely distracting.

Of course sometimes I just need to break out of my shell and go out and live life. I think everyone feel the need to be around people every so often, but even then I don't really socialize with people as much as I just enjoy being part of a different atmosphere. Like I'll walk down a busy city street just to admire the energy of all the activity, or go to a park or the zoo for a long photo shoot so I can fully appreciate all that's around me, or I'll go to a museum where it's quiet but I can just get lost in it all day. So I guess you could say that I don't mind people so long as they are just part of the scenery and I don't actually have to deal with them. Now I will hang out with friends too and actually do some socializing about once a week, and actually enjoy myself, but I can really only take so much of that before I want to be on my own again.

Now I do get lonely sometimes when I find myself wishing that I had a significant other, and realizing the very likely futility of that ever happening especially since I hate getting out and meeting new people. But it isn't long before I find ways to express and accept this, and for the most part I'm quite content with being the lonesome wonderer.

It all depends, when I have had a really stress filled day where the people around me have been annoying like no other, I tend to like being alone and enjoying the quiet. Sometimes I really want to be around people, mainly if I have had a slow day and feel lower than dirt. I just need someone to brighten my day, though most times this never happens.
