Onix is 4x weak to water, compared to Vulpix's 2x. Combine this with that spdef difference, and you have a lot of pain for the giant rock snake.

I'd never noticed that about Red/Blue. That's... kinda dark.

Onix quite known for having horrible special defence, it's more effective to take a non-effective special attack against him then a normal and/or super effective physical attack.

And, it's quite possible that your Onix got bad roll on his SP def stat and Vulpix got a great roll on it.

Elite Four plus Lance defeated, round 2. Just defeated them a third time today in physics, actually. (this distracted my friend from his work, lol.

Johnny (Blastoise) just hit Lv60... replaced Yoshi (Feraligatr) with him simply because I think Feraligatr's design kind of, uh, sucks. The Hunchback of Johto, yeah okay

Why do you think there's no move that specifically inflicts it without causing damage, a la Thunder Wave?

Freezing is useless because there is no move that specifically inflicts it; the only way you can get frozen is by a 10% chance off of ice beam, blizzard, etc (or 6.7% off of Tri Attack).

Freeze lasts pretty much "until you thaw" (20% chance every turn of attempting to act). Sleep is 1-4 turns. How well they work in comparison to one another depends on your luck.

Agreed, I wished I could've gone back in time and let that little sucker die Pokemon less. I'll find the Surf HM somewhere else.

I also dominated Silver at the end of Victory Road in my first run through. He's been fairly easy so far on my current run. I'm at Mahogany Town and just about to face off Bryce, but don't feel like it tonight.

Machop can learn Strength, Rock Smash, Rock Climb and Headbutt. Most water types can learn Surf, Waterfall, and Whirlpool but I'm pretty sure Chinchou can learn Flash too.

So I restarted my SoulSilver finally and here is my team thus far:

Lv. 21 Mystearica (Misdreavus)
Lv. 20 Lumen (Chinchou)
Lv. 18 Grotle (no nick b/c was a gts trade)
Lv. 17 Ridley (Skarmory)
Lv. 18 Meizuki (Houndour)
Lv. 18 Liz (Ralts)

I also have a Lv. 15 Nidoran female I'm training up for taking on Whitney since I have no fighting moves. I'm considering using Mystearica's Spite on Rollout unless it has like, 20 PP in which case I'll use lumen and a Thunder Wave + Confuse Ray combo. Everyone has been infected with Pokerus too so yay stat boosts.

I've also been catching everything I find for no reason other than I felt like it. I now have Pineco and Yanma.
