And horribly hinted fonts.

And probably a lot more that I am just forgetting Right Now.

I'm not a fan of most serif monospace fonts in general. Serif proportional and sans-serif monospace are OK, but the combination tends to look ugly for me.

Also, most serif fonts look bad in small sizes when there's no anti-aliasing.

Helvetica and Times New Roman.

Those are the two fonts I can not stand at all, ugh.

Oh, and smoothing on some pixel-based fonts (like KongText and Press Start K... but eh.).

Also, dark-on-light bothers me (provided it's basically black-on-white...).

I agree with you here. Most of Eastern Asia doesn't.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Serif monospace is passably ok, courier/new is just the worst though.

I and l.

Overly serifed serif fonts. They were originally to help readability but someone decided they should be decorative, in the process, making serif fonts really busy and hard to read, or even crowded.

Overly thin fonts like courier/new.

That fucking light grey on white shit. It's even worse than black on white which is also bad.

Times New Roman and Arial... I definitely prefer Garamond and Tahoma better. =D

Also, do not use Courier New... it's ugly and hard to read... at least use something like Andale Mono, Monaco or Lucida Typewriter. =/

When l and 1 look nearly the same in a font... that always bothers me too... and it's especially common in many serif fonts...

I'm not a fan of "paper colours" either, preferring the light-on-dark schemes of old. I've customized computers to darker schemes only for some programs and Web sites to customize the foreground and leave the system background or vice-versa, resulting in almost unreadable text

Also, I'm really not a fan of the font Chicago, especially the lopsided V's and W's.

I've always kinda liked it, probably because Macs were the first computers I really got to play around with in school.

Maybe that's why I don't like it, actually. We had Commodores and IBM compatibles at home, and Macs to me represented the stricter, more oppressive school computer policies while C64/DOS/Windows was me being pretty much free with the computers at home.

I like both Chicago and Charcoal... probably because for the longest time, using computers, at home I was stuck on a dying 286 (floppies were its life energy, almost) and when I went to school I got to use their Macs, which were colorful, had games I didn't have to try five or six times to run, and generally felt more fun (since I talked to my friends as well). This didn't change very much until 2002 (when I got my 486) except on the 386 I got I could actually play things without struggle.

Some of my personal favorite fonts include Chicago, Myriad, ITC Garamond (not Monotype Garamond, that one sucks), and Tahoma. I find Tahoma much easier to read than MS Sans Serif nowadays, since I was stuck with MS Sans Serif for so long...

Chicago was always one of my favorite fonts, since my first computer in 1993 used it, and also why I prefer the ITC Garamond better than Adobe or Monotype Garamonds. Myriad (and its parent, Frutiger) are also some fonts that I've always liked. After so long, Helvetica (and its knockoff Arial), as well as Times New Roman, have started to feel bland for me... =/

I like Verdana, Tahoma, Lucida Console for monospaced, Lucida Sans (current font) and Candara. I don't like Times, hate Comic Sans, and Courier is crap.

I do not like courier and times new roman, I do however like the windows font 'system', kinda gives it an 'old' feeling for me since the same font was used for Windows 3.1 at the time.

There are other fonts too that I like, Verdana and Arial are good fonts to me, and Geneva, which I used on classic MacOS.

I had a teacher (in a typography in design class, so this was reasonable) who would give you an instant zero if you turned in a piece of work that used Times New Roman, Comic Sans MS, Papyrus, Arial, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS, Impact, Helvetica, or Courier New at all. He would threaten to give you a fail grade for the entire class if you used WordArt. Again I think this is reasonable in a typography design class; there are actual legitimate reasons NOT to use most of the above fonts other than all of them being way overused.

Last I heard he added Calibri to the list of forbidden fonts mainly because it's the Office 2007 default. _

I never was much a fan of WordArt. If I used it, I at least changed the font because I don't like Impact (which a lot of them used by default).

Oh yeah, forgot to mention before, I can't stand Impact.

In my classes, usually you had to use Times New Roman. So technically when I used Linux without it I couldn't turn in a qualifying paper, although I had a similar enough font.
