...but I still had a bit of fun with it, none the less.

Basically, Xk was talking about how he likes the soundtrack of Columns Crown. A strange thing with a couple of the songs is that they feel like they're missing melodies. Like, there's the chord progression, some accompaniment, and drums, but there's no melody.

So like the bored person I am, I decided to have a little fun with this.

I added: piccolo, other flute-like instrument, guitar, marimba. (in that order)

Everything else is completely verbatim from the song, direct from a recording of the gsf.

The shocking thing is how well this fits with my regular composition style... it really sounds (to me) like something I'd write from scratch. (The important distinction is that I didn't )

I want to try something like this myself, only I don't really know too many songs that are sans melody... maybe I should look for one?


edit: also is that guitar sample from advance wars because it really sounds like it

It sounds like it, but what I used is actually from a soundfont, sYnerGi v1, and the instrument is "Joe Perry DistGuit".

I dunno if Advance Wars uses the exact same sample, but it sounds very similar indeed.
