Yeah, but if you want it to contrast with the dark type, we already have fighting for that. When you look at the Pokemon (and the moves), the dark type is much more dark as in "evil" rather than "obscurity".

Light type is unnecessary. I'm surprised they were able to get the elemental rock paper scissors working so well with 17 types, I'm sure it'd be hell to rebalance it by adding another type, especially if they wanted to keep the original 17 weakness/resistances in tact.

Edit: On another topic, I wonder how many legendaries we'll get. To be honest, the amount of legendaries in D/P was ridiculous. R/B only had 5, D/P has... a lot.

Screw Light type, they should make an "???" type pokemon. Arceus has programming for being one, and Smeargle can be one with roost.

Jirachi would be the clearest example of a light type (it's an star), and it's psychic/steel. Interestingly doom desire is an steel attack.

There's also "Shadow" type from the other two games. Which isn't Dark. And is super effective to everything except shadow. Light could be opposite to this instead.

Correction: Smeargle doesn't become ??? type with roost. Whenever I pokemon uses roost the flying type turns to ???. Since Smeargle doesn't have a flying subtype, it just stays normal. (I'm sure that if you use a fighting type attack on Smeargle the turn it roosts it will be super effective still.)

Flying type Arceus, on the other hand, would, since he's the only mono-flying type. But he doesn't learn roost anyways.

Except you can change Smeargle's typing to pure flying first by using whatever move to copy color change and being hit by a flying attack. Effectively turning it later into ???.

Smeargle can also learn Judgement, though I don't know if it changes deppending on the users' current type or the plate it holds.

Flying covers birds pretty much perfectly, really.

Aha, I hadn't thought of that. I suppose Conversion or Conversion2 could be used to do that also.

Arguably, a "bird" type would've been good back in RGBY. Differentiate Doduo (flightless bird) from Butterfree/Charizard (flying not-bird) and Pidgey (flying bird), and all that.

Don't ask me what weakness/resistances to give it (although it needs to be super-effective vs. bug for obvious reasons).

Reimu: Smeargle can simply use Conversion to become Flying rather than using role play or skill swap to borrow color change off of a Kecleon. I was going to try to see if you could use the transform->rage glitch to get roost onto Arceus, but it can't use transform, mimic, mirror move, copycat (HEY GUYS WE NEED A FEW MORE "COPY THE LAST MOVE" ATTACKS), assist (to copy transform off a teammate), or metronome.

I don't think we need a new type either to be honest, there is still a lot of ground left to try and make more pokemons mix types that have never been done before.

For example, a fire fly that is bug/fire, etc.

Forgot how conversion worked.

What we need too are things that screw up with the elemental types logic in different ways, like a move that changes the opponent's type, or that reverses type effectiveness...

Flying-Normal covers normal birds pretty well I think too. Just that flightless birds don't make much sense as flying. Things like Altaria should've been pure flying though. Or Rayquazza dragon/electric.

Probably that was why they didn't end up using Bird type instead.

Yeah, we could definitely use some different elemental combos. I'd love to see more fighting type combos, since right now there really isn't that many.

I mean, we could have a Steel/Fight that was like a rock 'em sock 'em robot. Or a Fight/Ground. That'd be interesting.

Some types that I want to see in Generation V...
Steel/Poison - two weaknesses: Ground (4x like the Magnemite family), and Fire (2x, which is common among most steel types)
Electric/Grass - Negates ground, but introduces Fire, Ice and Bug weaknesses
Bug/Psychic... otoh, maybe not... six weaknesses, but it's probably going to happen anyway (in fact, I think the Venonat family should have been Bug/Psychic in the first place. =/)
Psychic/Dark - Despite a 4x Bug weakness, it would be awesome... =P
Electric/Ice - like a refrigerator or something? I've wanted to see this type combo for years...
Normal/Ghost - only one weakness, Dark, but it'll have three immunities... (if you give it Levitate, that makes it four. =P)

Also, Jynx and Farfetch'd need evolutions this time... since Jynx is like a counterpart to Electabuzz and Magmar anyway... and Farfetch'd, well... you get the picture.

I think the main reason Charizard and Gyarados weren't given dragon type is because they'd be overpowered for the most part. Fire/Dragon would only be weak to Rock, Ground and Dragon. (And a starter losing it's weakness to it's rivals starter poke is just wrong.) Water/Dragon is only weak to Dragon type period.

I'm also in favor of a Farfetch'd evolution. A Kecleon evo would be nice too.

Rotom already has the refrigerator covered.

That was the my favorite ability in K64. Well, second to the lightsaber one.
