Geometry Wars 2 is half off this week for XBL Gold members. I loved the original, and I'd grab this in a second if I had an Xbox.
Amazon has an offer where if you buy Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox, you'll get Mass Effect for free. It's about the same cost if you were to buy them used, so if you're looking to own both games I'd say that's a pretty solid deal. Ends April 10th. ____________________ |

Personally played Modern Warfare 2 through the singleplayer - it was in the video rental were it was not supposed to be, as it will be tied to an existing Steam account. As nice as it was, the single player was just a tad too short (7-8 hours maybe), but it seems the game is built around multiplayer much more, the campaign being some kind of tutorial. So I tried the the game online, and surprisingly it ran well, even though this entry does not feature dedicated servers by Infinity Ward. But in the end it will be interesting only to hardcore fans, as the main problem is its unlockable weapons. You start with bad weapons and have to finish quite a lot of games, until you finally have those nifty perks and perhaps the best stuff. That doesn't mean, it is impossible to win with level 1, but if you compare two skilled players at the same level with a hefty varation between levels, it is sad that the level will probably decide. If this was optional, it would have been better, as many players just sit out and camp (the game even encourages that by offering the sniper class quite early). Also I only really liked the Headquarters Pro game type really. So, even if 5-6 hours may be a bit short to judge the multiplayer, basically it is really nice looking. It runs fluently on a mid-range video card with several people. It is just not a game for people which play singleplayer only. If you tear through games like butter, I'd wait until the game drops to a reasonable price, because for the campaign it is just a tad short. The fact this one is made up quite well (minus the airport mission, I just don't understand what happens in the end) just doesn't redeem its little duration. The question is, how long will this game actually live? CoD4/MW1 is said to be better be some people, others say that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has the better multiplayer, but if you cannot run mods or change little more than some generic options, like amount of health and round duration, it will not help at all (but if you are EA or Ubisoft *cough* ...) As for Steam itself, it is okay. It is not all all bloated as I expected (25-30 MB of RAM usage if fine, though), although the initial advertisement/news page (in full mode) strongly markets Valve's own and its partner flagship titles. But it was enough for me; I wanted to test one of those "war games" online, got what I want and at least know a bit about that, uninstalled Steam. ____________________  |
