It's amazing how people's irrational love/hatred of a company/product can make a story like this into "big news."

Whether or not you agree with the sentiment that an iPad is already $500 down the drain, ... the fact remains that these punks threw $500 away. They even professed that they are Apple fans in the video and that they have two more (I'd love to be able to drop $1500 like that.) They just beat on the thing just for the lulz apparently. There's no statement here. Free advertising for Apple. I mean, that thing took a while to destroy.

If they had destroyed anything but an iPad, this wouldn't even be news. It's pretty messed up that it is news. They even had a blurb about it in today's newspaper.

i will be completely honest here in saying that i literally want to punch these people in the face several times over regardless of what they even destroyed. way to go possibly screwing someone out of something they might want, jackasses :specialed:

They've been smashing stuff for years. I remember reading a blurb in a 1980s computer magazine about someone so pissed off with his Commodore 64 that he was going to sledgehammer it. Some people then wrote in telling him to sell or donate it instead. I don't know what happened.

There's almost always a better way to spend your money when it comes to buying electronic gadgets... But people are free to do what they want with their own funds so to me the whole "waste" point is moot.

While I think its stupid and a grasp for 15 seconds of fame, I don't really care that they did it. At least they paid for their own and did not steel it or ask for someone to volunteer theirs and then perform the cruel action of destroying it.

Smashing stuff is really just plain and stupid in my opinion. But while it is entertaining to some people, to others it is just easily offending. Not saying that I'm offended and I have watched plenty of 'will it blend?' youtube videos without it bothering me, but this video just isn't so funny to me.

I think the point you're missing here is that rather than put $500 towards something useful (buying one for a kid in need or for a school, or even donating the $500 to something else) they basically blew it just for the sake of being able to smash one.

It's their money, and they can do what they want with it... but it just leaves that nasty taste of senseless waste in your mouth.



Personally the only reason this got news:
1. It's people smashing stuff
2. It's new

That's it. If the iPad was out for another month, this wouldn't have gotten on the news. It's not because of durr apple h8 or anything.

Hell, or even put the money to good use for themselves. (bills, food transportation, etc.) It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be money used on others.

Onyx, you're just mad because you don't have that kind of money to throw around.
