Being a citizen sure is a bitch sometimes.

Honestly you won't get picked. Chill out and relax. Worst case you have to go there for two days.

My mom had jury duty several years ago. She got picked because, being a transplant to a rural area, she was one of the only ones eligible who wasn't related to anyone involved in the case.

I had it last summer. I was called into a courtroom with about 30 others, but thankfully I wasn't chosen from that group to be on the jury. So I just sat around all day.

Oh, and they showed us a video at the beginning about how awesome our legal system is.

Bring your laptop.

Make some inappropriate comments or foul language when being interviewed. They'll send you home with a handshake and a thank you.

Honestly you won't get picked.

I got picked.

I actually don't mind but I just don't have a lot of money this week (because I missed two days of work last week) and getting gas is a bitch this week. Also, the people at my job are dumb asses. Remember, they thought I quit because I didn't show up the day after my pinky was injured when I was allowed to have it off due to worker's comp.

I just want to make sure that I get paid. I called work and one of my several bosses was like "huh" but said he'll pass the message. I'm going to have to call again tomorrow morning to make sure.

I don't get the form to give to my work until after its over.

I had Jury duty and had to stay for a month.

Murder case as well as doing a drug case.

I learned a lot about Meth and killing someone with a chainsaw.

A month? Did you have to stay in a hotel or something, or keep going back to the jury every day or periodically for the month?

I'm hoping I don't get called up for jury duty anytime soon, being carless and all. What if someone has no transportation to the courthouse or wherever?

I had to stay in a "Hotel" sure. I had a phone, food, a bed, and TV.

No Internet though. That was the worst part about it. Phone calls were monitored. I had to request making a call.

E- Hope that does not scare you Anya. This was an extreme case.

I also had a teacher who had to take off school because of jury duty. At the time I didn't have much of an idea of what it was though, as it was when I was in 2nd grade.

Few years back, my brother whose one year younger than me had to go to jury duty and he didn't like it very much. So far I hadn't gotten anything in the mail regarding jury duty, I must be really lucky so far because I don't really like being in a fairly crowded room of people since those kinds of rooms tend to get me slightly nervous.

Is it strange that I'm actually having fun while on jury duty?

Save for having to drive down there and wasting gas and having no money to eat.

I walked into my job today to make sure they knew I wasn't working because of jury duty.

They do pay well. I earned 2k from a month's worth of jury duty. If I worked in a higher class, they would have never picked me. So consider it free gas depending on how long you spend there. Then again, you live in a different state, so I don't know how much they pay.

By the way 30% of my pay on my Jury Duty was spent on cigs. Thank God I quit! You should too posters!

No, they don't pay well here.

If your job doesn't pay you, you get $15 a day. After the fourth day, you get $30 a day.

One of the ladies who got picked was very upset. She is the sole provider and has kids. She's been at her job for two months, so her job will not pay her while she is away. Luckily she was able to talk to the judge and get out of jury duty.

My mom got summoned several weeks ago and will go on the 15th. Kind of annoying, since now I'll have to walk two miles with an art portfolio that is falling apart, and may have to do so in windy/rainy weather, possibly being sick, or any two combination or all three. And I can't say I won't go, since there's important shit I have to do there.

Just great.

summoned last year around february. Nothing big though, just a car accident. That, and I went home after one day anyway. got 20 bucks out of it. It pales in comparison to my cousin who refused to sell cigarettes to a cop without ID (the cop awarded him $50. And didn't buy the smokes ), but hey.

Never been summoned but it's always a possibility.

If I was picked in Quebec, I'd get $90 a day plus meal, transport and hotel (if there's deliberations) expenses. And my employer wouldn't be able to fire me if the trial lasted a long time.

I don't see what the big deal about Jury Duty is and why it's hated so much (except for the fact that the money you receive may not be very good). I always thought that it might be fun to go and watch a trial, just to see how different it is from the Ace Attorney games (I want to see people stick out their finger and yell objection and then I want to see the prosecutor throw his 14th cup of morning coffee at the defense attorney's head).
