Given that about 85% of the comments on their blog are absolutely negative about the layout (as well as the PREVIOUS layout change), no, I really don't think they give a shit.

Did they take out the history feature? Because I sure as hell can't find it.

That's either disappointing (if they took it out) or just a really shoddy UI.

Click on your username, and in the drop down click on "My Videos." In the bar to the left there should be an option for your History.

Buttons on pages now use one system color but not others, meaning that users on light-on-dark color themes find the buttons impossible to read (such as yellow on gray).

The video description is under the video, making it impossible to read at the same time as the video.

Ratings aren't shown until you actually rate a video, meaning quality control before choosing which video to watch impossible.

Comments have no form whatsoever and are frustrating to read. The lack of threading makes discussions absolutely impossible. Comment dates are hidden until they're hovered over, making it difficult to see how old a discussion is without playing follow-along with the cursor.

"More from this user" is now invisible, meaning that in order to browse their movies, you now have to use another separate method of navigating them, and even opening it shifts around the video. It also uses another Javascript-based navigation, meaning that it's impossible to scroll along at your own speed, requiring you to instead wait for it to load the next page of videos.

Comment separation can lead to completely irrelevant and nonsensical ordering, and sometimes even displaying the same 4 comments in reverse order.

The user's chosen picture is now missing, meaning uploaded videos are even less user-centric than they were before.

The only good change was the +/- rating system, but even that fails because it isn't actually shown anywhere unless you rate it yourself.

I'm disappointed at the inability to hide comments now. I don't want to see all that trashy noise on the page.

If anything, the more negative it is, the more likely they are to keep it. Do no evil? Pfah, only an idiot would believe that.

Alright.

This is what I have observed for the past while now in regards to major UI changes to anything:

- A company makes a major UI update, such as a new design (i.e. Facebook.)
- Thousands of people get angry because they are confused/hate change.
- Times goes on, and people get used to the new UI.

And to be honest, I'm already used to the new design for YouTube. It's different, yes, but it's not that bad… right?

I don't think it's the idea that it's bad. It's that the change was unnecessary and that the old one was superior in pretty much every way.

That's my opinion though.

It still looks like the old YouTube to me, save for a few, tiny changes.

Youtube still looks somewhat the same to me, not much different and I don't see why some people are complaining about the new youtube layout change, aside from having to go through two pages to get to their page.

People will eventually adapt to the new change as time goes on, I'm certain. Even my sisters do not like the change but that doesn't stop them from visiting youtube. I remember getting annoyed when youtube changed the profile pages around for every single user to the now modern style, but I'm slowly getting used to that change each day.

I actually somewhat prefer how the related videos are shown now, as I'm rather annoyed by inter-page scroll bars. On the other hand, the "More videos by whoever" section seems to have moved to being hidden by a button above the video. It took me a while to find it.

I don't like the "Highest rated comments" at the top, as I'd rather they preserve the order of the comments.

I never read the comment section. And now Youtube is basically forcing it on me.

Seriously, you have to hover your mouse on comments to see the dates? Without it looks so cluttered.

The comments being unorganised did annoy me too, having them in order is a must for me since I think that is the appropriate way to read them, and comments won't make much sense if comments are sorted according to highest rank instead of being arranged by date.

I still hate the Windows XP fisher price layout, as well as Vista's 'Become lost in a hall of mirrors' Aero look, so, I would be an exception to this rule.

(I continue to use classic view)

Similarly, when my old forum changed to VBulliten, most people got used to it, but I continue to note how much it sucks whenever the UI comes up. (Not often, though.)

Of course, this may be because UI is something I intend to focus on with my major. As a result, I am hyper-sensitive to UI things and much more likely to throw rocks at changes to it that don't add usability or aren't benign aesthetics ones.

I never liked the XP theme either. It looked like one of those kid-friendly things with the garish colours, not really suited to then-14-year-old me.

I didn't like when vBulletin moved the sidebars above each post, and I don't like boards that put sidebars to the right of each post either. I also get rather annoyed at commas separating thousands, which board tended to adopt wholesale several years ago. Maybe because of my programming background.

The Windows XP 'Luna' (fisherprice) theme was indeed so much like an interface for little kiddies who are just learning how to use a PC for the first time, kind of wish Microsoft could have brought over the 'Whistler' skin/theme for those that wanted the professional look, I was disappointed when microsoft did away with whistler.

Fixed that for you.

I never liked XP's/Vista's/7's UI themes either. On XP I'd always install hacks for custom themes (why the hell do we need to hack it for that anyway), and on Vista/7, I just have to put up with the annoying interface that doesn't work as you'd expect and tries to mimic other OSes poorly.
Xbox 360 had a nice, functional interface and replaced it with a stupid one. I don't like it, it confused the hell out of my dad ("what the hell is this make an avatar crap just start the game"), it lacks some of the nice aspects of the old one (in-game menu coming up at the side so you could still see) and adds no real benefits I notice.
Facebook's original interface (at least, the one they had when I first signed up) was not too bad, but tended to be awfully confusing and awkward in places. The redesigns have just added more awkwardness.
Now Youtube replaces what was a perfectly fine interface with one that has several disadvantages, and no apparent advantages.

So I think the real issue is big companies suck at interface design, and realizing this, they frequently design new interfaces that are supposed to be better - but still suck. Actually, a LOT of programs, from small open-source projects to giant proprietary beasts, have crappy interfaces... it's not just the big guys. (Ahem, cell phones.)
I keep saying "give me some nice hardware like an iPhone or DS and an OS/game/etc and I'll design you an interface that doesn't suck" but unfortunately, hardware is expensive and it seems everyone who wants an interface designed also wants the whole damn program written for them.

Heck, today I was dealing with an ancient DOS program in class, that parses text files, and I discovered it treats tabs as 4 characters but displays them as 8. So any tabs in your file fuck up the formatting completely. Interface design fail all the way from 1973. Naturally, it's closed-source, and DOS has no convenient text replacement program like sed that I could stick into a script to fix it. Bleh.

I had a DOS C compiler editor that could adjust the tab spacing (I usually would set it to 3 or 4) but always printed tabs as 8 spaces, causing alignment issues if spaces and tabs were used together (which the editor did by default in place of many spaces) and pushing things too far to the right.

I don't like Luna at all, so I always switch to Classic on XP... (especially since I was used to the 98/2000 theme anyway...)

Aero is pretty, but I switched back to Classic since I grew tired of it fast... and now all I like to use is Classic. =D
