Awgh, it is so horrible, everything looks sucktacular and is arranged in the wrong place and so I think I need to look over on the right to find something but it turns out now it's on the bottom under the video it's entirely inconvenient and I'm hoping this new layout is just an april fools joke even though I've been hearing about the new layout for weeks in advance I really hate it youtube is ruined forever I cannot use youtube anymore let's all go to viddler instead that'll show them I cannot believe they did this I'm so annoyed right now why do they have to do this it makes no sense gah what a bunch of stupid dumbheads for making this ridiculous change I am so livid right now you wouldn't believe oh sure you can still watch the videos and the site itself works fine by oh god I really hate how the side bar is on the bottom now it's like a completely different website or something I was so familiar with how it was before and then they had to change it what a pile of bullshit.

Sheesh, I thought I was complaining too much about having to get used to FF3.6's merged forward/back button menu, rather than having the separate menus, but I got used to that pretty quickly.

Seriously. It's youtube. You can see the videos on the page, you can click play and the videos will play, you can click pause and the videos will stop, you can change the volume, you can turn annotations on and off. THE SITE STILL WORKS, GET OVER IT.

Personally, I hate not having the video info beside the video. I like to read it during the less visually intense parts, instead of having to pause and scroll down. And where are the comment rating buttons?


If they'd left an option to use the old style, this wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah it's not too bad. It'll take a bit of getting used to since it's more than just a simple video player change like they've done plenty of times, but everything it pretty much right there where it should be.

Let's review:

- They use system colors for some colors and not others, meaning that if your system colors aren't what they expect (black) the buttons become completely fucking unreadable (fabulous)

- Comments aren't threaded any more, meaning that having any sort of actual discussion went from "difficult because YouTube users are retarded" to "completely fucking impossible"

- Comments also have an absolutely retarded layout with no spacing or anything, so you might as well just read "Username block user hur duur comment a week ago".

- The description is now under the video, meaning that reading it while reading the video is absolutely fucking impossible for any description longer than one line

- It's another fucking stupid fix to something that didn't need a fix in the first goddamn place

No bonus, YouTube.

Problem is, SO FUCKING MANY websites do this that you basically can't use anything other than black text on a white/grey background for your default settings anyway. See also: dark themes in Windows (especially 9x), where even built-in programs have the same problem.

I prefer light-on-dark schemes overall, but I gave up on them because so many programs and Web sites would assume dark-on-light system colours, rendering a lot of text unreadable Seriously, developers, how hard is it to always set both the foreground and the background colour of all text?

Recently I ran into that problem in OpenOffice.org Impress (like PowerPoint) when I selected a dark-backgrounded slide layout. The 1st slide was fine, but subsequent slides always set the text colour of each area to black despite the background. I ended up just copy-pasting a good slide over and over and replacing the text rather than fucking with the colours a bunch of times.

I don't care about the layout changes nearly as much as the fact that the player itself is still a buggy POS. It is ridiculous that I can't watch fullscreen videos on a year-old laptop without the image freezing (not just me, others have the same issue), or that I often have to reload the page entirely to snap the player out of some endless "Read blahblah.youtube.com..." loop if I dare move the scrollbar too close to the end of the video.

I can't say I'm really surprised, though. Virtually every large corporation nowadays seems to think you can put a cherry on a dog turd and magically transform it into a delicious parfait.
