my iphone fried on me last night. I can't count how many times some apple product has broken on me in a short amount of time, and I was thinking of making the switch to the nexus one. I'm a little hesitant because it hasn't been out that long, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any first-hand experience with the google phone. how's the mp3 player? how are the app selections? how would you compare the two phones?

Well you're definitely doing a change to something massively better than the iPhone. Actually there's no comparison, everything about the Nexus One is superior compared to the iPhone.

Unfortunately I don't have any first-hand experience with it, but it's made by HTC, which generally I feel produce products of great quality(I've never had any trouble with my HTC... except for it being stolen).

The only phone that actually can be compared to the Nexus One is the HTC Desire, which I intend on getting. But since you live in the US, the choice should be simple, if you're looking at that kind of phone.

All my friends are switching away from iPhone. I can't offer any guarantees, but it's probably a better choice.

At least, my friends are all into switching to HTC products as well.

And they're computer scientists, so hopefully they'd know what they're doing, but I can't say for certain, since I use a hunk of plastic in phone from that has a monochrome screen.

Yeah us computer scientist(okay I'm not yet, but soon to be ^^) are trustworthy folks... or at least very nerdy and obsessed with technical gadgets

Paulguy's Post configuration
I have to wait about a year and a half + however long it takes for a new generation of phones at the time to come out. I pretty much just got my iphone 3GS last summer, only a little after release day.

It's nuts that phones are breaking the 1Ghz mark. I just wish they were willing to make phones a bit more chunky to allow for really big batteries. You can't advertise a phone as capable of watching movies if the battery will die by the end of a movie. I personally don't care if a phone is big or chunky, I want usability and functionality over being small. Hell, a nice big ass screen would be good too.

Yeah it is nuts, and I absolutely love it. I can't wait to see the Snapdragon perform in my hands.
I'm not sure I'd like a bigger phone though, the HTC Desire and the Nexus One is slightly smaller than the iPhone 3GS with a slightly bigger AMOLED display of 3,7 inches(compared to the iPhones 3,5 inch Multi-Touch display this is pretty fucking sweet) and I'd say it's just perfect for me at least.
And despite the 1Ghz processor both the HTC Desire and the Nexus One have pretty decent battery times. The Desire being slightly better than the iPhone and the Nexus slightly worse by the looks of it(which in all honesty is a little hard to tell as things are now, time will tell I guess).

Though I guess most of you guys are American? Which makes the HTC kind of irrelevant, unless you're not looking into using it for high-bandwidth internet use.
