I downloaded eight parts of a Sonic adventure rom (or iso), but when i try to unzip one of them, Winrar says that the file is corrupted. So, how do i unzip there? am i doing something of wrong?
Then, after unzipped them, how do i use them?

Thanks in advance.

you don't unzip an iso for the most part, you either mount it or burn it to a disk. :<

Err, can you be more specific??? Since it is the first time that i make such thing, i don't get a thing: I actually want to use them in an emulator (i got Chankast), but mine are eight rar files, i don't have isos. So are you saying i must burn all rar files on a CD? Or are you saying i get an Iso file somewhere?

I think you have to unzip them all at the same time as a set.

7zip has the option to merge and split files into several pieces,
I'd try merging them to see what happens

I just realized that part 2 and 8 are corrupted, so i can't go farther, i guess

Though i got a Sonic Adventure CDI file right now. So, how do i mount it on an emulator? do i need a real CD rom or somewhat???

Paulguy's Post configuration
Something like Alcohol 120% or daemontools can probably handle it. Not sure what format that extension is associated with, though, but those two can take most oddball disc formats.

(Someone really needs to select a single disc ripping format for all the people posting rips to a site to standardize to. Something that doesn't require a for-pay Windows-only program.)

It's called ISO, but people are stupid, and you can't exactly regulate the pirate scene.

Ehi i actually know it is an ISO.
Well, i actually got daemon tools. I mounted the CDI file with Daemon tools on the virtual device [D :], i run the emulator (everything configured), and select start. There is the main Dreamcast menu, i select "Play" and it says "please insert disk please". Mah, i actually set "d:" in the "drive" menu, in the emulator, so i don't get what am i doing of wrong :/

BTW i have Daemon Tools Lite 4355-0068

this is the dreamcast version and not the windows version?
I'm assuming you found a torrent of this. have you checked the comments section of wherever you got it? I find that's usually the fastest way to figure out what's wrong.

What about stuff that's not an iso-9660 filesystem, like stuff stored in UDF or HFS+ or even something completely oddball, there's also some games that expect subchannel data to be intact. bin+cue+sub seems maybe more useful in this situation... though are there CDs that use a completely different structure without a propter TOC and all that? Would a typical PC CDROM drive even be able to do anything with these?

EDIT: Also, I mean stuff like private/more community oriented sites, where they have rules set in place. I don't think underground-gamer even has any kind of consistency as far as image formats go. I think the wiki just gives you a list of a bunch of (mostly for pay, and Windows-only) disc image handling software.

UDF and HFS+ can be stored in an ISO file simply because they only use 2048 bytes out of every sector.

CDs without a TOC can't be read by most CD drives, so only a raw binary format would be of any use. As a comparison, here's how big a raw image of a 700 MB CD would be at various levels:

2473.0 MiB for the ones and zeroes on the shiny side of the disc
1110.3 MiB for the data encoded using 8-to-14 modulation
807.5 MiB for the actual usable data on a raw (e.g. audio) CD
703.1 MiB for Mode-1 data.

If this TOC-less CD does anything funny with the different encoding steps, you'd have to get a raw image at a lower level than most CD drives are willing to read.

ISO + MP3 is the most horrid distribution format ever from a preservationist point of view, and I really wish it would just go away.

It only makes sense for cramming something that shouldn't fit onto a smaller medium anyway.

Actually the emulator nullDC can open CDI files directly, so give it a shot.
As for ISO images, it also may depend if the image is made self-bootable or not. If you are unlucky, Chankast will just bring up the system configuration and report something like "No disk inserted", even if you assigned the right drive letter inside the emulator.

Both emulators are technically the same, with some tweaks, like one includes a hack for Ikaruga. Without it being turned on, bullets from those rotating boxes in level 2 cannot be seen at all.

Selfbootable? what does that mean? I don't get on well with NullDC (it freezes after playing for a while), so, is there a way to mount selfbootable CDIs on another DC emulator, possibly with Chancast (which it seems the best one with graphics)?

"Self-bootable" is similar or the same with CDs and DVDs for a computer. It makes you start from the medium, like from Windows 98 on you could just pop in your CD, the computer then would automatically start from the CD (assuming, it will be checked before the harddisk). Non-bootable CDs cannot be used to install an operating system directly. Then you need something to "prepare" an installation like, say Windows 95. Usually a floppy disk, again, bootable

But enough of that.
I am not too deep into DC emulation, I think it mainly affects users who want to burn their ISOs on a CD and play the game on the real thing: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=25906
This thread might help you, note the text in red, which describes your problem. And read thorougly through the passage first.

Well i already visited it, but i am confused, because there are too many versions of Nero and i have also the italian version and i don't understand what to do, since some terms are actually different than others. Is there a video tutorial or illustrated tutorial to make it? I actually tried it, but i got confusion and i can't go farther.

Then, about NullDC, i'm saying details: Sonic Adventure: ice cap: when i arrive to the snowboarding part, after the cutscene it freezes and i can't go farther. It is NullDC 1.6 (the newer doesn't configure joypad) and i don't understand why it does that. Help.

Edit: i have just noticed that Chancast makes strange noises instead of music, with my PC. why? is that because some files are missing? or some configuration problems?
