I would imagine that having disjointed lines

like this for comments is not

really very conductive to fast reading

and makes tracking basic information

like the dates of comments

incredibly annoying

Plus:
- Having the description where it is makes it even less likely someone will read it, and it's now impossible to read at the same time as a video
- SEARCHES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS AUTOPLAY AND THIS CANNOT BE DISABLED PERMANENTLY
- Comments and videos no longer have visible ratings, so you can't tell if some video is going to be a stupid screamer/rickroll/ad

In short:
- Fixing what wasn't fucking broke

I don't like needless interface changes in general. It's like a lot of newer boards (I think this is mostly vBulletins) that put the user info above the post. It was just fine on the left, if you ask me.

I really don't like the autoplay either. I assume you mean like with a playlist, where it loads the next video automatically after the current one is done by default. I often use those inter-video breaks to do whatever other stuff.

It looks totally bad (not).

Don't know how that looks unreadable. You see the user, the comment, and the date at the end, all in different fonts and colors for emphasis on whatever the info is.

What is that under the video? The description. The arrow means to read more of the description and there is no problem with this. I don't know how you can't see the description and video but every screenshot I've seen of the new layout looks like I could do both.

Thumbs Up/Down. Video comment ratings are absolutely retarded anyway.

That won't fix anything. The entire point of HTML5 video is you embed a video in a webpage and anyone can see it because they all use the same format. Having to deal with a bunch of stupid broken bloated proprietary plugins that are only available for x86 and don't work right on x64 or Linux is exactly the problem we have right NOW with Flash.

Maybe you can install Greasemonkey and, within this extension, install (again) a user script which circuumvents the changes. There are indeed some scripts for YouTube, but since I have the old version, too, I cannot tell/am not in need to alter the page display here.
It does not look too well with those big buttons, but I have to admit to like the current player quite much. Getting used to video descriptions below the actual videos (480p or higher) takes some time, but at least you can watch them in a good quality or HD (even looks pretty nice on my old 19" CRT). Too bad Google won't offer at least a lite and full version of the video page and/or player.
Yet, I have to agree how some older designs work much better. Take the channel page for example. Am I the only one who still is _really_ confused about searching for certain uploaded videos?
And for the channel page there seems no setting which allows you to open up new videos on a new page (some people have nasty backgrounds or you just want to watch videos in a fresh, new tab or window), but just plays the video on the same page. Okay, you CAN just middle-click again ...

HTML5 would be great, I also think the <video> tag uses less system resources than Flash. It might be good for some lower end Net-/Notebooks. On my older computer with a single-core Flash could use up quite some resources then.

Speaking of light versions of youtube, isn't there that "youtube feather" thing? Did they just end up scrapping that? It would've been nice if they had kept it and tweaked it a bit. The only thing I didn't like is I would've preferred to have had more related video links, instead of just 6... and extended it to the channel page where the high requirements really exist. It's not really the download size that's the issue, it's the ajax bloat.

There's still full-screen mode, although that persistent "Press Esc to exit full-screen mode." that can't be disabled and lasts for several seconds gets quite annoying. Also, being full-screen it's harder to multitask.
