How many people have put in funny names for when you can name a character? Some of my personal favorites are Lonk(link), Girl(any female/girly male), ...(anyone) and D-Bag(FFX, Friends Idea, made the intro watchable again.) 


Now Lonk, has saved the day,

Put Gannon in his grave,

So now Zelda is free,

And now our hero shall be,

Lonk, I think your name

shall go down into history!


I don't know why, but sometimes I just can't be serious for names.

When I played FF1 GBA a while back, my party was OMG, LOL, WTF, and BBQ.

Link often gets named "inghp" (selected the same way as Acmlm but from 1 of the Oracle games) or LOL, etc. Bipin and Blossom's son often is something like POOP.

Fun character names include "myself" and similar, "you", "OMG!" and other interjections, "d00d" or just "dude", and a single space. For even more fun, hack some control characters in, so your name is a beep or something.
In Final Fantasy you could hack your name to be "OWOWOWOW", and in G/S you could insert variables such as the name of the last Pokémon you used in battle, the first one in your party, your rival's name, and some characters that expand to words, so you could for example name yourself TRAINERTRAINERTRAINERTRAINERTRAINERTRAINERTRAINER and break the formatting every time it's used.

More fun can be had in specific games, such as naming yourself Zelda in Ocarina of Time, and meeting her for the first time. "Zelda? That name sounds familiar..."

I used Hyper on my first run through Chrono Trigger, which got an O.o out of me when a chef offered "Hyper Kabob"... fun coincidence.

I always thought "???" as the rival in G/S might have been an oversight in the design, as it seems to be the default name until you change it. I wondered if they just didn't realize they were using his name in the dialogue before it was known.

Usually I fuck around with other names though. In Gold I always named my rival "Poopy" (SHUT UP A TRADITION FROM WHEN I WAS LIKE SEVEN)

And in Touhoumon in Japanese, I looked up the Hiragana and named my rival "douche" in Japanese.

Such fun times.

I usually just keep the default names on the first playtrough of a game.

But if I come back to it then silliness ensues. Like naming everyone in a RPG to "person".

I've been thinking of running through FF6 with Juler names eventually. I guess I know what name to use for Sabin

A couple of years ago I'd usually name 1 of the females Taryn.

I used to just use the default Pokemon name typed in proper casing (first letter capped, all the rest lower), but in my Platinum version run I decided to be more creative with it. I had a female Luxray in my party, so I named her Luz Deluna (after a song in Pangya PSP, which I'd link to but I can't find it on YouTube). There were a couple other ones, but I can't remember too well.

I used to just put in swear words when I was little because I thought it was just the funniest thing ever. Now I usually just keep them, name the main character after myself or use a name generator I wrote.
