I'm sure everyone's encountered this bug in the human brain before, but I wonder if anyone else has managed to document it like this? Does this seem right?

Someone states an argument.
You state logic that shows their argument incorrect.
At this point it is clear that either the argument or your logic has a flaw, and the next step would be to identify the flaw. However, instead, the person responds by restating the same argument again, in a loop, becoming angrier each time.
This generally continues until they eventually fall back to "I can't back up my argument so I will ignore you now", or to personal attacks. At no point does the person make any attempt to actually back up their argument.

This usually happens 2 or 3 levels deep. A person may state "argument X is true because arguments Y and Z are true", but then get stuck in this loop when Y is disproven. At any given iteration they may restate either "X because Y and Z" or simply "Y is true", never trying to back up Y, never touching Z.

I haven't been able to determine the precise conditions that trigger this bug, but it occurs frequently. On the Internet, it would appear to be an advanced form of trolling, however, it can be seen in cases where neither party would have any interest in trolling, online and offline.

Unfortunately the human brain doesn't appear to have any sort of bug tracker and the developers are extremely difficult to contact (isn't proprietary software great?), but hopefully someone can pass this report on to someone who can do something about it.

I cannot wait for WCU to respond to my application... People say I worry to much and that my grades/SAT scores are way higher than the school's average (75th percentile and up) and that I should wait calmly but I still fear not getting accepted, West Chester is the only place outside Puerto Rico where my father wants to send me, so not getting accepted means I'm not moving.

If I'm accepted, I shall attempt to create a spree here! (yeah, I don't go out with friends getting drunk in those types of occasions, like normal people xD)

I remember the one I had with Treeki! I made like 150 posts that day ...

@HH: I agree with Shadic, some people just do NOT accept being wrong and they hug an argument to the death no matter how flawed and illogical it might actually be when looked at with reasoning. Some other people just do it to piss others off...

Yeah, I guess that's the simple explanation. Sometimes people just can't stand the idea of being wrong. What seems strange to me is it tends to be such a ridiculous, meaningless argument in the first place.

Also, lol. How long have I been overlooking that?

I've noticed it as well, but don't remember where I saw it first. Here, or the junk thread that prevented so many others.

Can't wait until General has a total of 65535(or 65536) posts in it

It seems to me that I1 had a few individual fora with over 100k posts, so that limit is probably higher (16777215 or 2147483647, possibly).

Okay, looks like I can't use the automatic fan speed setting in SpeedFan anymore without potentially destroying my power supply's fan.

Yeah, my father flipped his lid when I brought up his inability to be wrong to him. He then tried to prove me wrong... by grabbing my arm.

Wise move, NOT. I just took his hand off my arm and walked away--the patent ridiculousness of his action had done nothing but proven I was right.

Sort of.

He begged for respect from me afterwards, and I turned my back on him and walked away. He also begged me not to 'throw gasoline on the fire.'

Truthfully, it was thanks to gang-bangers who were outside that this happened. Usually, when outfoxed in an argument, he runs away--but at that time, he'd be running away into the alley, where the gang-bangers were having an argument about a disloyal member in their gang.

He did appear to feel stupid though, and it was a breakthrough for my Mom, who, seeing the truth of my "He will do anything to avoid being wrong, even if he is wrong" statement, stopped trying to reason with his madness and just delivered some nasty burns and then told him to shut up, which actually did stun him into silence.

The whole event did kind of snap his entire image of himself. Now every time he tries to claim to be normal, I can just brandish my arm at him.

Silly thing was, I could have wheeled about and broken his arm in two; he wasn't very good at the whole grabbing thing, or the 'menacing' thing. He had me in the corner, but, he left himself wide open for a crotch-kick, punching the wind out of him, uppercut to the chin, etcetera.

That's why he was sort of confused when he did all that and all I had to say was "Let go of me" in a rather bemused voice. I've fought enough bullies to know the difference, and he was just out of his head.

Of course, had he started anything, me, my mother, and my sister would have attacked him simultaneously, and he's 50 years old as of today (his birthday.)

You do the math. :p

Yeah, my family is raucous. Well, it's all my Dad, but, he makes up for it. However, he is by no means the worst, as I can boss him around with my words and actions.

I almost wish something like that would happen to me. My father is also the kind who can't fathom ever being wrong, and tends to storm off when challenged.
