We weren't even testing for that.

Okay, so aside from not starting up, does it do anything else unusual? Does the power light come on?

No, it's plugged off. Is this why it won't turn on?

Hmm...

The N64 might have short-circuited. Unplug everything (including the jumper pak or memory expansion pak) and wait for a while. I'm not sure how long you have to wait, but supposedly 45 minutes is a good time. Then plug in the power cable and see if the power light comes on.

If that isn't it, the power cable might be bad. Try a different one.

Don't they say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link?

Well, if it's really the power cable that's died, then this proverb applies perfectly.

I think that applies to almost all electronic gadgets.

Today's devices are very flimsy and break like cookies. The old ones used to be really durable.

Yeah, that DS of mine has survived 5 years of use with only a broken hinge... a month ago.

N64 broken? Mine started to overheat from dust. Maybe try to get a new power cable and try that, and maybe use compressed air to blow some dust out of it (via the cartridge slot/expansion pak port.

Oh yeah, make sure the expansion pak/expansion pak jumper thing is in there tight, or that thing just won't even try to turn on.

How do you get an N64 to melt from its own heat?

Unless you purposefully cover the openings for the cooling, that shouldn't be possible.
