I had one (1) message in Discord deleted and proceeded to make a huge, huge mess about how it was a violation of free speech and how moderators are supposed to be spam janitors and nobody should have the right to tell me not to talk about school shootings

Hopefully this will turn out to lead to a decisive triumph for HD-DVD... Honestly, I don't really care either way, except that I think the two format thing we have now is inadequate and is discouraging people like myself from buying high definition disk players.

I'm actually thinking at this point Blu-ray has a chance of surviving, and everyone will just have a combo player that supports both. It wouldn't take much more support for HD-DVD to push ahead though.

Blue ray... blue ray...

This reminds me of something very similar...

*thinks*

...

...

What was it called...

Betamax?

EDIT: I knew exactly what I was thinking of from the moment I started. The way I wrote this post, I was simulating the "forgotten" aspects of Betamax format. This was an attempt at comparing BlueRay DVDs to the Betamax VHS system. The comparison being that they are both of higher format, but both cost slightly more, and are incompatible with most other players, and thusly less accessable to third party developers, and as such, less are made available, and less are sold.

It isn't my place to say which format is the better format, but I was expressing a biased oppinion. For that I appologize.

Think of it this way.

What industry that has to do with this equipment would be the most in terms of how the media would be used?

Likely, it'd be adult-related content, i.e. pr0n. Sounds crazy, but it's the likely truth here. Whoever gets the porno industry on with whatever format of whatever person jerking off in HD will likely win the war. I have no doubt about that.

That was a large factor in what decided the VHS/BetaMax format war, but I don't know if it'd have as much pull now with all the internet porn out there.

That's true...but it's still probably a leading or if not the leading industry.

If it shows anything for format wars, even with a better technology Sony's always flopped. I mean an 8-layer Blu-Ray can hold upwards of 200GB and that won't apparently compare to HD DVDs in terms of 'quality'.

I don't know if UMDs were "better technology".
