My grampa's computer has a card slot, SD, XD, MS/PRO etc all apparently fit, so I put my memstick in, and well...

It works.

Weird thing is, There appears to be no way to get my memstick out... so uh... any ideas?

It's a Compaq Presario V6000

Isn't there an eject button thing? It would be pretty stupid if there wasn't ...

If not, you might want to break out some tweezers and a screwdriver.

Yeah, had to use tweezers to get it out.

Still, who makes a 5-in-1 reader that only fits SD cards? It's stupid.

Yeah, these things can be unreliable at the best of times. Since they try to cater for so many pin arrangements and physical dimensions of storage media, they often don't work so good. If he actually makes use of said slot, I'd advise your grandfather to get a bulkier but more reliable alternative with more than one slot.

Did you try pushing the stick in, to see if it would pop back out? My laptop has an ejection mechanism like this, though it was stuck in the "in" position when I got it, and thus I was not aware of its existence for quite some time.

It also doesn't seem to be designed to take the smaller (PSP-sized) Duos, requiring the use of an adapter. My desktop's card reader is the same way.

Yeah I think most memory card slots have some kind of springy eject when you push in, like a Nintendo DS. Though I think this might not be the case for some things like micro SD, which can be difficult to remove if you have fat fingers. I have no experience with this, though, since I've only ever used SD cards.

I have the same sort of card reader on my laptop, it accepts SD, MS/Pro, MMC and XD. Being the dumbass that I am, I tried putting in a MemoryStick Duo in it. Now, not only was it stuck, the card wasn't even mine. I did not have any tweezers lying around, I had to use a toungue cleaner to somehow get it out. I haven't used it since.

A friend of mine had a laptop bought in Korea, that had an SD slot on it. Clearly labelled. Turns out, though, there was no actual reader inside. Just a hole. We stuck a card in and it just went straight through to the board, where we had a hell of a time getting it back out.

I discovered tonight that my laptop's card reader will either behave strangely or simply not read Memory Sticks (not sure about other types of media) unless I pull them out of the slot a little bit, and do not touch them. This may explain how the card with my emulators and ROMs on it got corrupted last year.

I am not amused.

Sounds like some quality electronics to me.

Best card readers I got are the ones in the printers. They don't seem to have these weird issues.

The one on my laptop is the same.

And is half broken.

The card readers on my PC are all separate.

What about blowing on cards and readers? :p I get odd results sometimes from dust and stuff. To complete the illusion, the terminal should reset every second when I try to read it. :p
