Bomb jumping isn't too hard; you just hold down and mash the bomb button as fast as you can. Sometimes you need to adjust your mashing speed slightly, but it usually works. Just it seems after a certain height (juuuust high enough to reach the hidden door to the left of the ship ), it simply stops working. (If you're against a wall, it's good to hold the direction of the wall too, so you slip into any secret passage.) It does pay off to check every wall for hidden goodies, even if you've already found hidden goodies.
Horizontal bomb jumping is much more difficult, but with a few tries I managed to do a double jump to just barely reach a missile upgrade on a pole I probably wasn't supposed to get yet. Muhaha.

But wall jumping, I dunno, just refuses to work. I hit the wall, push jump again and the other direction, and just fall back the other direction as if I hadn't jumped at all. Even in slow motion.

Jump + left, collide with wall, hold right and jump. Samus goes into a special pose when walljumps are possible; if you try jumping before that pose you won't make it.

I've managed to pull off some pretty nice bomb jumps in the Primes of all games; it also works out well in Fusion.

One just has to stagger the explosions so they all knock Samus higher into the air rather than just randomly around the place.

And it took years before I learned wall jumping, today I can one wall jump easily. (And do some tricks while doing it, XD)

Yeah, I found the tunnel, but that doesn't help me get the upgrade at the top.

With Xk's advice (and slowmo) I finally managed to get the hang of it well enough, and got to the top, only to find...

You bastards.

The emulator fails at screenshots (hurr no numbering, each screenshot overwrites the previous), but basically once I finally got up to the ledge, I had to get in this hole. I honestly do not see how, other than a very well-timed diagonal bomb jump, to get in there. Then once you want to come back out, guess what? Think you can bomb-jump from there back to the ledge? Spin-jump from there, hit the wall just below the ledge, and do just one more wall jump back up? Propel yourself out with an explosion? hahahahahahahaha no. All you can do is fall back down and do it again.

Those 5 power bombs better come in really useful.
