And, though I can't speak for Oblivion (wouldn't run on my comp anyway), Morrowind doesn't have any of this shit! But we didn't need even more reasons to say Morrowind is a good game, right?

I agree with you about mods, but I don't think it's worth dealing with and supporting this over-the-top bullshit just for some mods.

I love how everybody seems to not realize just how often internet connections can go down.

Germany has forced disconnections once every 24 hours; often work or weather can knock out a connection, or if you're on a laptop, not somewhere you can get a wireless internet access, etc.

Even Team Fortress 2 can be played offline if you want (with bots).

It'd be nice if more game companies were this.

I even made a vow that I wasn't going to bother with DRM if I ever had one of my games go live.

I'd also like to refuse having any DRM added to any of my games, but I dunno how viable that'd be in the industry, if my only publishing offer wants it...

I hate DRM.

It often hurts legitimate buyers of a product, too. Back in the era of 5.25-inch disks, often the disks would fail but the copy protection would prevent you from being able to make a backup copy. I've had a few CDs fail or break, too. These newer methods are just ridiculous. People like old games even if you aren't profiting from them. I think companies should either sell all their old games for cheap downloads or release them as freeware.

DRM is ridiculous... I've had it fuck my computer up before, and it's just many companies' way of saying "you must buy another copy if this one breaks", etc.

I liked it better when there wasn't any major DRM on music, movies or CDs... hell, even stuff like Photoshop and Microsoft Office has fallen to the wrath of some form of DRM. =/

It just causes more piracy, like how Spore wound up the most pirated game... ever.

I absolutely refuse to buy a game that is going to fuck up my system if I want to play it.

That company's statement was pretty surprising, and the whole DRM-posting-torrent-links thing... yeah. That really, really doesn't help the image of DRM any, does it?

I can't decide if, on launch day (when is that anyway?) it'd be better to torrent and seed a copy for statistics purposes, or DDoS the servers. Most people won't have a fast enough connection to do both. Hmmm.

BTW, game developers take note: my OS has achieved what you all want. It can never be pirated or stolen, and the thing that prevents this can never be cracked or circumvented. It's called Linux, and the protection mechanism is called Open-Source.

actually it's called Debian, which uses a kernel called Linux, but lol pedantry

The launch day for this has become exciting for all the wrong reasons.

What will more people do: Pirate it, or crash the 'must be always connected to' DRM server?

Ubisoft has basically confirmed all their games in the near future will use this ridiculous DRM as well.

I find it intensely frustrating that DRM causes so many problems, on TOP of the fact that a lot of the time, the products simply don't work properly because they employ so many lazy programmers to do one simple task that gets done in a hackish and unstable manner.

Open source projects are generally more stable because the development teams are smaller and more focused on producing products that shine in terms of quality. Not this bullshit shovelware.
