Yep.

Not to worry, though! You can still find it on Google's new music video viewing/sharing site, Vevo.

In during Google publicity stunt.

Now if only they would explain why the original Kumikyoku Automatic Mario World video was removed and not the re-uploads. That video had like, 5 million views.

Does Viacom still hate YouTube, by the way? I know it's been over three years, but I'm not sure what they think now... =/

This also reminds me of when WMG removed thousands of videos from YouTube around Christmas 2008, but now many have been restored...

The copyright thing is funny, especially how that one guy got Modern Warfare 2 commercials removed for infringing on a mod he made for MW1.

On a more serious note, a YouTube user named thunderf00t has had fights over DMCA issues with VenomFangX and won! VenomFangX repeatedly abused the DMCA against thunderf00t:

I will keep this in note, in case anyone should try that against me.

That should be a good warning to anyone else playing with DMCAs, as they can get sued for perjury and various other mischief.

That's why playing with the DMCA is dumb.

I had one removed, because Sony claimed the music was a copyright infringement. The video had no sound at all. :specialed: Not even anything Sony-related in it; it was footage of Mario Kart. They did restore it themselves though, before I even saw the notice.

Youtube's policy on removing videos is simple (rough estimate):
  • If someone claims it infringes some copyright somewhere, remove it.
  • If it has any music in it, roll 1d6. On 5 or 6, remove it. On 4, mute it.
  • If it's extremely popular (millions of views) and/or extremely funny, and has been around for a few months, remove it.
  • If there are 2000 videos of the same thing, most of which suck, remove the ones that don't suck.
  • If there are several identical videos of the same thing, remove the one with more views.
  • For any other video, roll 1d20. On 19 or 20, remove it.

Next time I make a video with music, I intend to spend a few seconds at the beginning thanking the artists for generously allowing the use of this song in exchange for this free advertising, hint hint. And then a few seconds at the end pointing out how retarded it would be to remove a video with half a song, encoded at a low bitrate, in the background of a streaming video with other sound effects, instead of spending that effort going after actual pirates.
I know it still won't stop them, but at least I'll be satisfied in knowing that they truly are retards, and they know it.

Why you'd remove a video because of just a single flag I don't know anyways, because that opens up so much for abuse (see: "Is it a good idea to microwave this?" incurring financial loss because of one person who didn't like it).

It probably takes more than one flag to get something removed, but the fact that it's automatic at all leads it open to pasting "Flag this video it sucks" into some channel...

I mean I know that manually checking all of them is probably a bad idea, but community-controlled removal ... terrible idea.

In any sane system, being flagged would mean "check this video for obscene/illegal content", not "we heard it on the Internet so it must be true, delete forever, strike on your account, have a nice day". One thing I'd like to measure sometime, on a forum or blag or whatever, is how many flags appear to be idiots flagging randomly, idiots flagging because they personally dislike something that's not actually against the rules, and accidental clicks, versus real valid complaints.
