Lain's post №699

You need to have at least some constraint there.

Google chrome lets the user resize the window until it's 0,0.

Google Chrome sucks... I've tried using it before, and I didn't like how each tab hogs up RAM individually... (but, I suppose that could be useful in the long run, like to kill a tab in Chrome... which gives a funny "Aw, Snap!" message =P)

I may go back to Chrome in the future, but I prefer Firefox and Opera myself...

Only used Google Chrome for a little bit. Seemed good enough. But the version I had hadn't enabled extensions.

Chrome seems to be like Safari in that ... on Windows it's absolutely terrible in terms of interface design, but somewhat quick at starting up and rendering pages, at least.

On OS X, Safari is awesome and speedy and has a traditional UI consisting of regular menus and buttons (except where animated gifs and stationary background images are concerned) and ... Chrome is just as awesome and speedy and also has a traditional UI consisting of regular menus and buttons. (Except the close buttons on tabs are on the right side, when the Macintosh UI has always had close buttons on the left. Also, I hate the status bar that only shows up when hovering over a link.)

Then of course you get into Opera, which seems to only be any good on Windows, ... and then Firefox is pretty much okay, but not great, across all of the platforms it will run on. If other browsers had extensions like NoScript I'd be using them instead of Firefox, which has just been too slow lately, especially to start up. The 3.7 alpha is promising as it is a little bit better about this, but it's still not like Safari or Chrome coming up instantly.

It's too bad they don't have a PowerPC build... G5s really aren't so old to be unsupported. :/

Chrome on Windows hasn't given me trouble, though I've had a few problems with unresponsive tabs under Linux. Take my experiences with a massive grain of salt, though, since I kinda have an awful processor.

I've had more than a couple times where Chrome's hung.. usually it's a bad flash that hung the plugin or else my HD bandwidth is completely swamped by another program, or most commonly I've put out too many requests on a slow internet connection (no, I don't understand it either). Apart from that Chrome works really nicely.

Does Chrome have any x86 assembler code in it? Maybe that's why... since I know some other programs continue to support PowerPC, namely Opera and Firefox. =/

I'm curious as to what that first picture is about.

My problem has always been flash over function--shiny buttons, whimsical 'now it's all separate processes!' marketing, but little in the way of add-ons that I know of.

If I had to use something other than Firefox, it'd be Iceweasel.

Yeah, I never got the point of chrome in the first place.

I'm not a Chrome fan either.

I tried Opera and thought it was OK, but I'm too lazy to migrate all these passwords and such from Firefox right now.

Has anyone here ever tried the Acid3 test? I've done this test on several different browsers, and Opera 10 and Chrome get a perfect 100, while Firefox 3.6 still just gets a 92. (And, of course, Internet Explorer 8 only gets like 20, last I checked.)

Acid3 is also a really heavy duty, test-everything approach.

Odds are that 8 left over isn't gonna mean much for casual browsing.

I wish Firefox could patch some of that, though.

Now I'm cracking up imagining the Saturn Browser imploding upon reading the first line of CSS in the page.

The alpha of Firefox 3.7, not 3.6, should score a 94. 3.6 gets a 92 when I try it.

Chrome shows a linktest failure briefly while the test is running, but then that clears and it scores a 100. Safari gets a 100 without that message showing up. Opera 10.5 also gets a 100.

Well, it's nice to see so many browsers get high scores. Back in my day, IE 6 would break practically everything, and you'd have to program for it, because everybody used it.
