So yeah, either we let the crackers do it in 1 day but with good value for paying customers, or crackers do it in 2 days and shit for paying customers.

MAKES SENSE! :specialed:

Welp. I can't wait for that hurricane. It should be entertaining at least.

You know, I'm not entirely averse to companies trying to stop piracy.

As long as they're fucking reasonable about it. I miss the days of CD serial numbers.

Back in the Commodore 64 days, a lot of copy-protection schemes were so harsh on the disk drive that they would slowly knock them out of alignment, making it so that the drive couldn't read any disks (other than disks that particular drive recently formatted) unless it was repaired.

I believe Penny Arcade summed up DRM the best, and I'm going to paraphrase here since I can't remember the quote exactly;

'Arms race between people trying to prevent their stuff from becoming free stuff and people who want free stuff.'

It won't ever end until all computers are merely an extension of a global supercomputermind. And even then it'll still be a close race. In the mean time, we have to put up with every wave of 'advances' in copy-protection.

StarForce is annoying, yea, but I don't have any games that use it, luckily. Even then, SecuROM and SafeDisc are easy enough to find cracks for, and don't hose your system like Starforce. =/

I remember the old days of when there was no Product Activation or Microsoft Genuine Advantage, too. Those are always annoying, and I've even heard of genuine copies getting marked as pirated in some cases...

Schala: I have one actual real copy of windows, this doesn't pass WGA so I had to crack it.

I have used upwards of 5-6 pirated copies, these all passed WGA at once. GOOD GOING MICROSOFT!

Yeah. They're just insanely easy to break.

So we have to choose, then, between easy to break and hideously obstructive?

We both know which way that one is going to go. So I'll take console games, thanks.

Screw you, Ubisoft. I never did like you, and you're sure not doing anything to change that.

This crap is all the more reason for me to Steam. I never thought I'd say I approve of any form of DRM, but Valve is the only company that's done it right, and the service's immense popularity reflects that. Aside from one odd BSOD and their servers crapping out when trying to buy Psychonauts, I've never had a problem with the service. It makes me happy that I can install the same games on both my desktop and my laptop, and even play them when I'm nowhere near an Internet connection (pretty much anywhere in Spokane).

The frequent mega-sales are pretty nice, too.

I totally agree with anyone saying that Steam is good, main reason that buying games over Steam has actual benefits for the user compared to the person pirating it. Which gives me actual good value for the money.

I just can't praise steam enough.

Oh and Shadic, when I checked the windows help site they said the only solution was wait a few weeks for a replacement CD or buy a new license, and I wasn't gonna do either.

Steam rocks.

Ubisoft has rock for brains.

Really, why can't they learn from Steam?

Oh well. I hope they like being a joke when they release it.

Knowing them, they'd send you one back saying how it improves gameplay.

Since they drink their own koolaid, apparently.
