I love my iPod touch, but it's true: there are very few great games on the iPod touch/iPhone platform.
Hell, there aren't even that many DECENT games on the platform.
Good games on the iPod touch, from my experience, would include simple, fun to play, and stylish games.
These may be ports from other platforms, but they're typically ports done very well.
Examples: Bejeweled 2, CANABALT, Peggle, Taiko no Tatsujin, Eliss, EDGE, Pop, and Word Ace.
Decent ones include some ports, emulators, and one-shot games built for the platform.
They may have some minor control problems, or may not exactly be very original, but are otherwise a decent play.
Examples: Sonic 1, Lumines Touch Fusion, Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, James Cameron's AVATAR, and Super Monkey Ball.
Bad games, unfortunately, make up the majority of the platform.
From games with horrible control schemes to just plain shit, these are the cream of the crap.
Examples: see the gallery of shame that BMF linked to.
Fortunately, I haven't come across much of anything that plays really badly.
However, it's extremely evident that it's there, and in force.
How Apple expects people to believe that its device can be a gaming platform on the same tier as the DS and the PSP is beyond me.
Not to mention that Apple can pull whatever apps they want whenever they want, for no evident reason.
When they do this, users immediately lose all saved data in that app for good!
This happened to me the other day, when I installed Lumines Touch Fusion then synced up with iTunes.
What a farce.
