Looking at it from a % stand point then the british people have more over weight people then the US does.

I thought this was fairly known though.

On the other hand, the most extreme cases tends to be in the US from what I know.

The biggest problem with obesity is that people don't ever fucking walk. From what I've heard, it's why places like NYC have relatively fit citizens - Because they all use public transportation and also have to fucking walk all over the place.

Some places you can't do that. Like here. If I did that, then if I wanted to go to, say the mall, instead of taking twenty minutes, it would take over an hour to get there.

And if I need to go out on a holiday or a Sunday, forget it. The buses either don't run or they run late and stop early.

If people would just run for ten minutes a day, that would help.

I'd have to agree completely. I can't speak from experience as I've never had a over-weight problem, but I know plenty of people who have and its basically just a really bad habit they either can't or won't break. Its not because America is telling them EATMOAR, although that is the impression we give off as a society. I'd say there's plenty of fit people with the right amount of self control to prove that clearly this isn't this case, and it is in fact the individual.

You can't always just go back to being skinny. I've people eat well and walk a few miles every day (and do the whole "home gym" thing 3 times a week) and still not be able to get below about 300 pounds. There's a reason weight loss surgery is recommended in certain cases, after all.

Not sure if that's what Xkeeper was referring to or not.

Walking places is actually a huge help in at least keeping weight levels stable. Especially for those of us who have desk jobs (myself not included here; currently suffering unemployeditis). Though here it's quite hot at the moment, been baking under the summer sun for a while now which makes walking places really tiring even if one is fit. Though my tan is starting to fade, and I'm not sure if it's from getting jack of walking in the sun or if it's just getting less intense as Australia starts to move out of summer into autumn.

To point out how my initial comment is relevant; my own weight stays pretty much the same while I walk regularly. Then when I start stopping that, I put on weight. Not a lot, but it gets harder to remain relatively trim.

Heh. I was about 125, 5'10" for a quite a while. My "freshman 15" for College was more like a "Freshman 30."

So now I'm around average build.

And there's a small chance I may end up 6'0" before I stop growing. I hope.

Now I'm 5'9 and 160.

Like I said, a mind set. I changed that and it paid off big time.

Shame that I can't seem to lose the last ten pounds that I want to lose. I've been stuck at the same weight for a few months now.

I used to be 150 throughout high school, but once I got out after my job at the movie theatre (2000ish) I started to gain weight and I wasn't really paying attention.

One day I remembered that I would drink lots of soda and spend time on Acmlm's and IRC. Yea, drinking lots of soda and not working out to balance that out isn't good.

I'm 6'1" and like 187, although I'm not really interested in being thin anyway. I have mostly stopped drinking soft drinks though, only occasionally now.

I tend to exercise less in the winter, but I still walk to the store and bus stop and such because I have no car.

I don't like the taste, so I don't drink it. Because I never drink soda and I don't eat much candy, I have a ridiculously low sugar tolerance.

..Despite that, Red Bull doesn't effect me at all.

Figured that out like, two weeks ago.

I have a terrible sweet tooth, myself, eating tons of chocolate and ice cream.

I've cut back on the soda but still drink a good deal of it, although I tend to mix in juice and things to lower the damaging effects.

The issue is always moderation. Well, that, and my body automatically stops me from going overboard with eating something--I just can't seem to get hungry enough to truly overload on some fatty stuff. I just get super full before even through with a general super-rich meal, ending it then and there.

I'm 5'7" and about 130 pounds, but then again, I never really ate a lot of sugar stuff. I've always preferred diet sodas myself, but even there, I don't drink as many anymore (I typically go for the store-brands, which contain Splenda instead of aspartame). It's mostly stuff like flavored waters, SoBe Life Waters and soymilk (mainly for breakfast) for me. =)
