CNN's got live update coverage.

12:42 p.m.: The pilot of the plane had set his house on fire beforehand, stole the plane and crashed it intentionally, a federal official told CNN.

Well that's...hoo boy. Wonder what will come of this.

They're thinking the guy was deranged so I don't think it will turn out to be terrorism. I mean, there's always the possibility the guy had some beef against the IRS...

The pilot's last words, it would appear. (EDIT: It's been taken down from there. Here it is on pastebin.)

Basically, the guy got fucked over and over and over and over, and had fucking had it.
Dude's right, though. Our country is fucked up pretty much entirely, and it's going to take something extremely drastic to get shit set straight.
Hell, you know there's something wrong with us when it takes 70 years for us to even inch towards equal rights between races.

Gee, a guy's life getting fucked up over years and years, and then him finally snapping and taking his own life, and possibly the lives of other people, sure is funny, huh?

All I can say is that this is really what you have to expect when you try to push the whole "fight the power, the government hates you and taxes are the devil" thing...

Oh well. At least we don't have Bush in office or this would just be another reason to increase TSA security and stop allowing people to get near airports with brains. After all, they could use those to fly planes into buildings, don't'cha know.

I'm pissed too, as most people are, but why the hell are you going to crash into a building where most of the people are just trying to their jobs that they probably hate as much as you hate your job.

Good job exploiting a man's demise for your political ideology. I'm not going to say anything further on this other than I'm pretty disgusted you would go so far as to do this without all the information being out. This isn't DailyKos or Rush Limbaugh. It's Jul. Keep your damn politics out until we have the full story.

Yes, I'm sorry. I took the time to read through the full note, now that it's accessible. I appreciate the venom, though.

As far as I'm concerned, all this does is just present more evidence that the "big breaks for companies with billions of dollars and absolutely nothing for anybody else" thing is bullshit. See also BCBS raising rates despite posting record-breaking profits.

I was actually going to go back and edit my post (given that it seems that, for a change, this one wasn't inspired by our good friends the teabaggers inciting violence), but then I figured I'd leave it up and just post a correction, so here you go.

Like I said, though, thanks for all that venom.

Just a side note, I know teabaggers and do you know how hard it is to influence them to do something violent. Very. All they want to do is carry around signs and talk.

I didn't mean to turn this into politics, but introducing them this early on just didn't seem right to me. I'm willing to talk later about what you think about the Teabag movement and their influence up this event, but right now it's just too early...

I mistaken, sorry :| (really)
Anyway, talking seriously and leaving the n00b matter, I don't find it funny, i find it odd. If people are depressed, why the hell should they kill other people (i dunno, only one person have been found, according to the TV news)??? Since this is a today news stuff still needs to rise up, but who made this disaster could have hated the IRS building. Otherwise he was just mad.

It seems he was exacting his deranged form of justice upon those he thought were his life long enemies... I dunno' how people get like this. I've never been depressed to that point. From the letter it seems he yearned to change the US taxation laws so desperately, it got the better of him. After each attempt I'm sure he just sunk into an even deeper state of depression. I'm sure he blamed it upon the IRS and that's why he flew the plane into their building.

So someone spoke out against it..

And just as quickly someone tried to silence them. Raise your hand if you didn't see that one coming Honestly the USA has gone to shit. Companies can spend as much as they want to buy out politicians, the legal system makes a mockery of you guys, and the USA is easily one of the most restrictive countries on earth - you just don't realize it yet.

Like the country you're in doesn't have some form of this?

No, the flaw this man and all like him made was simple.

We all die anyway, so there's no reason to accelerate it. So what if there are things in the way--just never give up, grind at whatever it is until you eventually do die of old age.

See, this man could have been a brilliant activist--had he only resorted to a different means of protest.

Unfortunately, in his depression and madness, he has merely discredited the idea he wanted; people don't want to go along with ideas that result in people suiciding into buildings. Contamination by association occurs when this is done.

I think the problem is people want to believe they are powerless, when nothing is further from the truth.

Work must simply be done; to move an entire government is an infinitely slow process, and the changes are often imperceptible. But impatience will lead to nothing but insanity--trying the old 'blow yourself up' approach to try and fix a problem which numerous other people have, guess what, also failed to change through self-destruction.

America's not the free-est place on the world, but what is? Do you want to live in Somalia, where everything goes and pirates rule the ocean? No. It was said early on the government is a social contract between citizens to help establish order.

So if the contract is being misused or is outdated, then...

It is simply the responsibility of the citizens to protest it, vote in new people, and do everything possible within the sane limits of civil disobedience to disrupt and remove the cancerous aspects from the contract.

Not crashing into buildings, because that's just an overall negative to the cause.

And it's not 'too soon' to discuss politics on this, when the man himself was throwing the politics stuff left and right in his last words. True, one should not auto-assume he was some mad right winger (especially since he wasn't) but it would be disrespectful to this man's memory to not discuss the very politics he intended to be brought up by his self-destruction.

Indeed, he was in part revolting against the sentiment of avoiding politics when holes in the system are so widespread and terrible.

The problem is that you have the crazies who are just waiting for some signal to do something like this. They are out there, and not all of them are locked up in the funny farm.

I think this person summed up my thoughts exactly. I would also like to add that a capitalist society will only favor the rich, and fuck the lower and middle class. However, a communist society, like what that man inferred to want to have happen to America, would only end up with the government in everything even more, though every citizen would be considered equal to one another. Though if we can balance the freedom of the capitalist society and gives each to their own to ability and need, things would be better.

Though I am probably missing one big glaring fault with what I just said, but I hope the drift is caught.

Why is it that the words "plane crash", "IRS building" and "Texas" bring the words "tea bagger" to my mind... :specialed:

Palin has created government-hating monsters and I am still wondering why don't we grant their wishes and let Texas secede.

They want the government out, but then they will cry when huge corporations set up monopolies nationwide and destroy the small businesses they claim the government and its taxes destroy. Oh wait, that's already happening they just want it to get worse. I don't like communism but I sure don't want capitalism either. Those two should get married... somehow...

Has anyone read the suicide note? I just got done reading it and I just don't know what to say.

The man worked hard in his life and people kept taking away his retirement plans. After working 100 hour weekends (It's in the note, I don't know if this is in a week's time or in some other time, or being sarcastic) for five years, big brother decided to pull the rug under him and he owed money in bad taxes.

Which explains why he dove head first in the IRS building.

This is indeed sad to hear. And even though he claims he could not fix his broken soul over the amount of Therapy, i'm sure there is a soft spot in hell for his ass. He had no reason to do this. And absolutely no reason to harm the people who work in the IRS.

He should have done a little more research and paid off his taxes. There are people who are lenient and can bend over to where you can not only pay off your increase, but you can also pay off your deductible(I think this is the word I am looking for) that won't have you in debt for the rest of your life.

Just another person out of my gene pool. Is all I can say.
