Any thoughts on these? I plan to have one of these two systems by this time next year. I believe I will have spent a little less, though due to prices going down eventually...

Simplicity v1.1
I'm liking option 1's processor with option 2's mobo if that makes any sense. I'd rather have an AMD+Asus pair up. The Seagate/Maxtor drive was the same I was getting for myself, which is great at what you're getting for a SATA drive, and the rest of the pieces don't really matter to me one way or the except 'ew' at Vista. I still can't even bring myself to touch the OS even with the SP coming up here shortly.

Get an ASUS AM2 board that'd take that sweltering processor and you'll be fine...but I still don't see why you would want to spend close to 2K on something like that when you could go down a bit and get it for half the price if you chose your option a bit more leniently.

FWIW, here's what I got, and I think it'd beat the socks off of any AMD system (sadly, I love AMD but right now they aren't the way to go)

Case
Mobo
Video
CPU
PS
SATA burner
RAM (2 of these kits)

I already had a 500GB SATA HD (WD, of course) I recycled. Total was shy of $1300, and it is amazingly fast and rock stable. And cooler than my Socket A Athlon was, too.

Hiryuu: Considering it'll probably take me 1+ years to accumulate all this stuff, I'll probably end up spending about half to three-quarters as much as I'm quoting myself. And really, the whole point is to spoil myself. Why else would I need the second best video card on the market and 1TB of HD space split across two Hard Drives? The computer is supposed to last me until 2015 or so, when I'm sure enough new technology will be out to warrent building another one.

Axia: I'd go for the Quad Core too, if I thought it was necessary. I just don't think I need to go beyond dual core for the moment. It's not like I really care for most of the highest-end games that are now or will ever be available in the near future.

Really, my answer to people on what I plan to use this computer for is simple: I plan to use it to play DOS games .
