So the ceremony is set to start at 7:30 EST, dunno about out west. I know I'll be watching. Now where did my coaxial cable get to...

Anyone else excited for this? (dumb question alert)\

So yeah, use this thread for all general Olympics stuff.

So should I stop posting Olympics threads in Action McNews?

Also for the record I really don't like that I didn't get to vote on whether we'd have the olympics, but I still will have to pay for it for 30 years

I figured since it's more than just a news event it'd fit better here but feel free to link your previous Olympics threads in here as well.

So I enjoyed the opening ceremony. Except for Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams' obviously prerecorded performance.

The Kumaritashvili crash was just brutal to watch. You knew that he was dead on impact... absolutely sickening. Really put a damper on a fun opening ceremony.

I'm guessing that luge goes on tomorrow as scheduled but I wonder how safe the track is. Speeds are 15km/h more than they should be. I'd put some extra protection on that final turn, though... even if this was a fluke accident, you know a lot of the athletes are going to be REALLY nervous at that point. And if you're nervous... that's not a good feeling at that speed.

6 medals will be handed out tomorrow:

1:45 PM EST/10:45 AM PST: Ski Jumping - NH Individual Final Round
2:45 PM EST/11:45 AM PST: Alpine Skiing - Men's Downhill (weather permitting)
3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST: Speed Skating - Men's 5000m
4:00 PM EST/1:00 PM PST: Biathlon - Women's 7.5 km Sprint
10:18 PM EST/7:18 PM PST: Short Track - Men's 1500m Finals
10:30 PM EST/7:30 PM PST: Freestyle Skiing - Ladies' Moguls Final

Luge (I guess...) and women's hockey are on tap as well.

My uncle has this on TiVo for me. I like to watch the Olympics.

Especially in 1080p definition for this year. HO RAH!

They were saying on NBC that the track goes up to 90mph and is the fastest and most dangerous track in the world...

Geez.

Also, the ceremony was really nice last night even with the malfunction at the end. Very enjoyable.

Men's Downhill is off today due to the weather. Not wintery enough.

First medals were just decided in Individual Normal Hill Ski Jumping; Simon Ammann (Switzerland) takes gold with a huge jump. Adam Malysz (Poland) took silver and Gregor Schlierenzauer (Austria) gets bronze.

Speed Skating and Sweden vs. Switzerland in women's hockey are up next.

I watch the Olympics every once in a while although not religiously like some people that I know. I was just recently watching the ski jumping while eating a bowl of soup and I was shocked that Simon Ammann beat Adam Malysz on the very last jump of the event. I would be so disappointed if that happened to me .

Ammann is very good, though... it wasn't a huge surprise that he did but it was a huge jump which pretty much clinched it. He knew it at least.

Day 2 (well, Day 1 of actual competition) over with.

Canada has still not won a single gold medal on home soil. And this is our THIRD TIME HOSTING.

NOT OVER YET
Woo, USA wins gold and bronze in women's moguls, and silver in men's 1500m

That last lap was insane. It really looked like Korea was going to destroy the competition.

Yes, I'm sure that Google decided to put up the luge logo out of spite. God forbid we even mention that sport.

Luge runs today went just fine, though.

Finally. FINALLY.

Only took us since 1976 in Montreal. And 1988 in Calgary.

Congratulations to Alexandre Bilodeau, Canada's first gold medalist on home soil.

Lain's post №626

I would like to watch it but... I'm never in the lounge, and I don't have cable in here.

I did hear about the accident and pedobear though. Wow.
