Uhm, ouch.

After looking at the score, it's hard to believe the Orioles led this game 3-0 at one point. The Rangers' 30 runs sets a modern MLB record, surpassing the mark of 29 runs that were scored by the Red Sox (June 8, 1950) and White Sox (April 23, 1955). It's the second-most runs all-time as the Chicago Colts (now the Cubs) scored 36 against the Louisville Colonels on June 29, 1897. Jarrod Saltalamacchia led the Rangers' charge, going 4-for-6 with two homers, five runs and seven RBIs.

That's right, the Rangers beat the Orioles today (August 22) by a score of, well... 30-3. The 30 runs set the record for most runs in a doubleheader, and this was just the first game. Amazingly, Texas scored all their runs in just four separate innings, teeing off for nine in the sixth and 10 in the eighth... hell, they were down 3-0 after three innings. Highlights (for, uh, Texas): David Murphy (5-7, 5 runs), Jarrod Saltalamacchia (4-6, 5 runs, 7 RBI, 2 HR), Ramon Vazquez (4-6, 4 runs, 7 RBI, 2 HR).

It pains me to see how Murphy and Gabbard are doing in their new uniforms (given the struggles of Gagne.)

Although, being 6 games up on the Yankees ain't half bad.

Eh, Gabbard and Murphy don't have very high ceilings. Murphy wasn't going to be much better than a fourth outfielder, and the Red Sox have too many starting pitchers/prospects in the pipeline, so Gabbard wasn't going to get a fair crack. Besides, Gagne's a Type A free agent, so whoever signs him gives the good guys two first-round picks. Mind you, even though the Red Sox lost today, Gagne was okay, and they still have the best record in the majors. And (I think) six or seven more games against Tampa Bay, which are automatic wins if Matsuzaka isn't starting. It's nice to be Boston.
