I just don't get why the fan base is full of pissy whiners. First of all, the jump to 3D will ALWAYS change how the game series will play. A good example is metroid series, it went from 2D action/exploration to first person shooter/exploration. Sure, some people think it was ruined forever, but I disagree, it was just different. Sonics jump to 3D was quite good from what I have heard, both adventure one and two sounds great from most people I have asked/heard from. If you don't like how the series changed though, you don't have to keep playing it. 
Another point is the voice acting from what I have heard. As long as it fits the character it should be all good. It's not like dubbed voice acting will ever be better then the japanes... though, sonic might be a special case as he had very different personality in japan and the rest of the world when he first hit the market. Still though, if it fits then it should pass without people bitching so much. I also don't get why people complain about more characters. I can understand in cases such as big the cat and tails/eggman in adventure 2 that have so different gameplay... but, in most cases more characters mean more ways to play the game, and it will also add to it that more people can find the character that is the most fun for them to play with. A perfect example is advance 3 that not only have many characters, you team them up two and two to get a special ability/change the moveset a bit. (My preferred combo is Amy/sonic to get high speed AND speed boost special!  ) Sonic 3&K had three play able characters. Knuckles and tails had the option (or where forced) to take another path through the same level, not only making it have more replay value, but also giving you the option to play the way you want. Granted, I never liked tails paths as they involved flying... and flying is soooo zeta slow!
But hey, I did not have to play as tails so, go me! And now here we are, people bitching at the next new sonic game... before it has even been shown! I think Sega payed to much attention to what some fans wanted when they took out this game. But on the other hand, not much have been shown so, you can only just wait and see how it turns out. I have liked all 2D sonic games so I think I'm confident in buying this for wiiware once it's out. The only thing that sticks out as odd to me now is, like cpybasic13 pointed out, the episode 1 in the title. So this could turn out to be rather expensive for not much play... BUT! It could also be set up as .hack// series of games where there was several full games but a overall story that took place over all of them. They used the same game engine but, there was new themes (and a few new music tracks) and some minor engine upgrade between releases. But they where still good and long stand alone games... So I would not really mind if sonic 4 is set up the same way to be honest! =) The bottom line (and my point) is that one should not be bothered by the freaking details. As long as the game is fun and gives what the description says then I don't see the problem. In fact, why bitch about shit before it's even out? I'm a huge zelda fan, yet I was skeptical for three recent games, WW, PH and spirit tracks... but, I waited with my judgment until after I played it. And if the game does not look good enough for you to buy it and give it a try, or you just lost faith in the developers. Then that's fine, don't buy the games. But please don't bitch about it everywhere, no one gives a shit and it's just a pain in the eye! That is all! ^^ ~Luna |
