You have to realize Apple's marketing strategy, which is genius. It may not be everything that it was hyped up to be, but it is going to sell and it will make money.

1. Everyone that knows how to use an iPhone or iPod touch can use this thing. They didn't change the interface for a reason, so that people would already be familiar with it
2. It's 10x better than Kindle or Nook. They're going to have an E-book store, but it also has a superb web browser (flash issues aside) and 140,000 apps, including business oriented ones like iWorks.
3. For every iPad user, there will be at least 3 companies making accessories for it. We'll eventually see everything imaginable, from stands to video docks, head rest straps for car trips (for movies, etc)
4. For just $500, its within reach for a lot more people than any other tablet out there

I for one will not be getting a gen 1, but when the gen 2 comes out I probably will.

Actually I have a "Business" laptop that doubles as a powerful gaming 'top, it's better than a desktop basically because of the portability factor. Kinda hard to carry a desktop around at university
