It's a lot faster than 3.5, as far as I can tell. And it doesn't have anything too weird with the layout.

Although those personas kinda freak me out. I should download me that Netscape Navigator theme again...

It also adopted the chrome tab placement A.K.A new tabs to the right of the tab it originated from instead of far right.

Will take some time getting used to, but they speed improvements are nice, and so is the plugin updater.

Did they fix the memory leak problem?

If not, I'm not impressed.

Doesn't look it all that much...although I think it's more towards Firefox keeping a constant cache on where you've been more than anything. I believe there's a tweak to fix that, though.

Seems to run a bit better though, I will say that much. Might be enough to get me back after the atrocity that was 3.5.x.

If you care about memory leaks, Firefox will probably never be your browser of choice :p

But it does seem like they have worked on it a little, but I'm pretty sure it starts the memory leak city after a bit. We'll see what happens as I leave mine open for long periods.

Well, I think FF is starting to have issues. On this quad-core it's beginning to lag every ten seconds when I go through and type something in a post...yep there it goes. Let's see what the memory spread is now.

[pulls up Task Manager]

... ... ...

345,768K memory commit.

Fuck. That.

What tabs did you have open, out of curiosity?

I've never had issues like that on my machine, and it's substantially worse (think: single core fucking CELERON). It's used some RAM before (which goes down after closing tabs), but it's never done that. Perhaps it could've been Flash? :/

Only two. This site and another (not YouTube or any power hungry sites).

I believe it has something to do with Firefox's session restore. It intervals every 10000ms (10 seconds) and will save a substantial amount of data because of it. Changing it to where it doesn't do it at all and I'll see if it's any better now.

Hm, that'd make sense. Yeah, that 'feature' has always sucked. Oftentimes the old session is useless to me anyway, so after all that wasted memory, no good comes of it!

There's a few other tweaks I need to try, but since 3.5 they've redone how the browser is configured and there's a new set of variables that you have to modify...so everything you know about FF is pretty much redone and everything has to be learned almost all over again.

It's a bit of a pain.

And in 3.5 it automatically restores your old session after a crash instead of asking you like old versions. You know, the very same session one of whose tabs likely caused Firefox to crash in the first place

It's like how Firefox 1.0 allowed you to completely ignore target:_blank, which I prefer to do because I want full control over what links spawn a new tab, and then they removed that option from the dialogue box and threw it in about:config somewhere.

Does anyone here know how to make Firefox stop taking those session restore snapshots, anyway? I'd like to disable that, since it's just wasting RAM and whatnot...

Aparrently writing "currently open files and associated URLs: http://jul.rustedlogic.net /cache/index.html" is too hard for Firefox.

I know in Opera you can left-click and choose Open to force it to not do that (I think), not sure if it works in Firefox too.
