I know I'll be the dad that still plays video games, for sure. My kids will learn their gaming history. One of the things I most look forward to regarding this is having my old SNES hopefully still in working condition, and then pull that out one day and stick it next to the Xbox 1080 or Wii 3 or whatever and watch my kid's face become all confused. And then when I turn it on and boot up an old 2D game like Super Mario World or Super Metroid, that will be priceless.

I really think I'll be gaming all my life. I'll be in the nursing home and talking about the good old days when consoles still used controllers and had games on cartridges.

Supakitsune's post
I never say stuff like this, because it assumes I'll ever get together with a girl and hit it off so well that stuff like that happens.
Or, for that matter, ever get laid at all.

Fucking hikikomoriness.

Same here.

I also agree with your first paragraph, but I plan on starting with the NES.

Yep.

My parents were like that to me. My mom would play the old-school arcade games before the NES existed and she had an Odyssey², and my dad had an Atari 2600 and an Intellivision as well as a Commodore 64.

I'll probably get them a system for the new games, but I'll also educate them in video game history by letting them play classics on an emulator. Old games are awesome

I would start with NES but we never owned one. Being born in 1990, I started on GB and then SNES. But I'll go back as far as I can.

Since I was born in 1984, my parents had an Atari 2600 and a Colecovision... but then I got my first game system of my own, a Sega Master System, for Christmas 1989

Although, even by 1989, the Master System was on life support in the United States, but it was all I had until 1992, when I got a Sega Genesis and Sonic 1... (in fact, I didn't get an original NES until 2002 )

#52
I started with the NES in 1987-1988, then grew up with the SNES and Genesis, and I missed all the older consoles ... but I did enjoy some early NES games from 1983-1985 if that counts

I'd probably do the same too (still got a working SNES, Genesis and Master System, and emulators of course), except it doesn't look like I'll have kids anytime soon

I was playing the NES since 1990. I had the SMB/Duckhunt cart, SMB3, NES Open Tournament Golf, Blaster Master, Xexyz, Double Dragon II, Dr. Mario, and Tetris.

I don't want to know what the kids will say about games like SMB3, Link to the Past and Sonic in 10 years from now. :\ Good luck educating them...

Schala: At least the SMS did well in Europe. And Brazil. Probably still a household name to pass down to youngsters there.

For various reasons, I'm almost certain I'll never end up with a family. However...

...If by some wild chance I did end up having offspring, I wouldn't force games onto them by any means. If a child of mine expressed interest on his/her own, however, then I'd gladly introduce them to it all.

I'd just leave all my consoles out, maybe separate TVs, and play the old games when I was bored of the new. Probably buy some special cartridges so that I could play ROMs on real consoles. If my kids wanted to play old games, they'd play, and I'd offer to play with them. I wouldn't be first player in a game like SMB1, though. =p

And I'd buy a bottle of 50% alcohol and a large box of Q-Tips to help clean out old carts.

My parents basically are the ones who got me into playing video games. My Dad is the one who got me into Zelda Classic and emulation, sort of (he was the one who downloaded ZC/Snes9x--I found them on our computer on my own). I'm also the only person I know who has a parent that likes the Mother series.

I started off on the NES and SNES basically at the same time. I think I've been gaming since I was 3 or 4--I don't remember a period in my life when I didn't play video games. My parents have always kept different Nintendo consoles around.

As for my own future, hahaha me having kids yeah right fat chance.
