I thought you were talking about booze and I was going to come in here and show you the error of your ways.

But yeah, those shots aren't the most fun thing ever. The last shot I had was a tetanus shot a few years ago. I actually couldn't feel the shot, but my arm was sore for a day or two.

H1N1 shot was fine, it's just that your arm feels sore for a few days. Just as if someone gave you a solid punch to the arm.

NOT OVER YET
Eh, I'm fine with shots. It's the side effects (see: H1N1) or soreness (if I fail to relax my arm, which was quite an epic fail with last year's flu shot).

The shot that I get every month, is a thick liquid, so they have to press the end of the needle pretty hard to get it all on there.

I had to get an IV a couple of years ago when I was badly dehydrated. I was feeling too weak to care much about getting a shot.

Dehydration is nasty stuff.

When I had to go to the ER for my asthma, they tried to give me an IV. Didn't work. I hate IV's. I've only had it once, when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Oddly enough, the NORMAL flu shot did that to me.

H1N1 was perfectly fine.

I've never had any problems with getting shots. It just doesn't feel like a big deal to me.

Though oddly, the needle that I use to pierce the skin in order to check my blood sugar scares me more than the shots.

Wait, maybe it wasn't an IV, but there was a needle in my arm the entire time I was getting them out....

For some wacky reason, the thought of being punctured with a needle really doesn't bother me at all. That might actually be why I wasn't nervous about getting an ear piercing.

At one point, I had to get two shots simultaneously, one for tetanus (I think), and the other for one of the hepatitis vaccines. Both times, I didn't flinch, despite them being the first time I ever got shots.

They do indeed make your arm feel sore though, where you got punctured.

Actually now that I think about it, I think my first shot(s) was(were) actually in my gums (to numb them), so I could get several of my baby teeth pulled in preparation for braces. That certainly was a strange feeling, the piercing didn't hurt, it just felt like a slight "itch" until the numbness kicked in.

From an Aspie's perspective, pill swallowing is easy. Most people with mental disorders have been taking pills their entire life so it's no big deal. As far as needles and shots go, I am fine with them as long as I have an experienced nurse give it to me. Getting a shot from a inexperienced nurse=pain and possible complications. I guess my sentiments come from having a RN as a mom.

I had all kinds of things wrong with me mentally but my parents refused to medicate me.

I got a blood test done today. It hurt for a bit but mostly I just looked away and counted in my head, trying not to think about the fact that I was having a blood test.

I used to think that I was phobic of needles. This is untrue. I faced my "fear" by getting a few piercings (ears, lip) and by donating plasma. These didn't really bother me much at all. What it turns out I'm afraid of is syringes (even the word creeps me out) and being injected with something. My body goes into fight-or-flight mode and I freak right the fuck out!

I don't have a big issue with needles. Yeah, larger ones like IV inserts pinch a little painfully, but it's certainly nothing too painful, and in some cases (like IV sedation) seriously beats the other options available.
