*Thread title should say "sing" darn those n and g.
So my science teacher is teaching us about the Charter of the Earth and we have to read it thoroughly and analyze it... good... Well, she's making us make a song out of the charter that's related to environmentalism and saving Earth. Problem is she wants us to look for a music track, stand up in front of the class and SING the song in front of everybody and risk showing up on YouTube (happened last year)
Why the hell must singing be forced!? What the hell could we learn from embarrassing ourselves in front of the class (or the world, should it reach YouTube) !?
I understand, last year our ESL teacher made us sing too, but he was teaching us rhyme and poetry, he had good reasons to do so! This teacher, however, is making us sing, forcing us a lyric AND forcing us to choose between LOCAL (aka crap) music genres.
I feel like suing her somehow...

In elementary school we had music class, where a teacher pushing a cart would come in and have us sing stuff and also teach us note names and time signatures and whatnot. In some schools we went to another room instead. I thought it was fun usually even though I'm a bad singer.
In 3rd grade the schools also tried to get people to join the school chorus. However, if you decided not to join, you got like a 45-minute indoor recess instead
Sing! SING YOUR HEART OUT! And when they realize just how badly you sound, they'll force you to do something else demeaning and demoralizing. Like playing the flute.

I always like to sing 70s and 80s songs in the shower for some reason... and I'm often pretty good at it (much better than when I try to sing a 2000s song )

In 2nd grade or so, we had not 1 but 2 school projects that required a shoebox. I didn't even know shoes came in boxes, because my mom would buy my shoes for me and they'd just be sitting at home one day after school.
I discussed this with her today and she told me if I don't want to sing then alternatively I'd need to write an essay on the Charter of the Earth ... she didn't explain much because we had little time but she will give me more instructions next week... Good, looks like I'm saved...
As for dumb school projects, she's given us many crap because the class is related to recycling and environmentalism so she constantly makes us build things out of recycled stuff ... sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's extremely tedious...

Build a birdhouse out of recycled chicken bones. The laughs will be worth it.

I actually volunteered to sing in my school. I was a part of the chorus group in my early years in school. Then once I hit middle school, I never took part in any activities. Not even in clubs or anything. I was pretty lame.
However, I went to a private school in the 12th grade, and as being one of the few 12th graders there, I was the "Leader" of all students until some students were transferred. Then I backed down from what I was doing. (Counseling, grading, supporting, etc)
As for now, I'm a...well. If you know what this means then you know your surroundings I suppose.
For being as lazy as I am, I was actually pretty active in stuff back in High School.
I was going to two different schools, one was a vocational school for Video Game Design (Which was great.).
I also played Tennis all four years, and got a Varsity letter. I did Track for one year, as well. And I was in Symphonic Band/Marching Band as well.

Wow, glad I never had to sing in front of class, that would've sucked. I have had to read reports to class, which I always hated, I'm really shy, especially for stuff like that. D:
As for school involvement... I pretty much did nothing. No clubs, no athletics. None of the clubs terribly interested me and I hate sports.
I played soccer (football for Europeans) for a while and had piano lessons, but neither of those were through the school. By high school I had no extracurricular activities. I guess it never really interested me to have to do more work in addition to school and homework, and I never had much school pride as I always wanted to get out of the rural area where we lived. Plus I wasn't very good at soccer anyway.
The only time I was forced to sing in front of an audience was during elementary school music class. Even then, I didn't mind that much, I was just a little kid, and had no ego nor sense of embarrasment.
Aside from that, I've had to swim in front of a whole lot of people while wearing nothing but a jammer, and I had to do that for over 12 years, plus, I've had to perform countless concerts when I was in the school orchestra. I guess I'm not too weary of performing in front of an audience. I still get nervous about it though.
Anyway, any sensible teacher that doesn't want to get sued out the ass would respect any student's request to not be broadcasted on the internet, since refusing denies the consent necessary.

I'd like to point out that it was one of the students who recorded us and posted it in YouTube, not the teacher...

I actually think if the teacher plans on posting the stuff or videotaping it, they have to get a signed consent form from the student(or parents if the student is below a specific age) for that reason x.x

A student recorded one of my teachers and put it on YouTube. Said teacher seems to be computer illiterate, so he may never know. My current physics teacher records the class, although I think it's just audio and it might only be accessible by university students.
