Renaming the picture to PNG once it's been saved as JPG doesn't help any. Once it gets saved as JPG, the fragmented pixels remain, even if you try to resave as PNG. If the first saved image was PNG, this would be OK. But saving as JPG then saving as PNG with virtually the same picture gives a PNG with an inflated size and the same appearance as a JPG.
In short, that PNG is a spy. (JPG spy)
