Jack Thompson also believed that The Sims (2?) had graphic nudity and sex if you removed the mosaic effect, which was entirely wrong (and proved so when someone did and found pretty much no detail whatsoever). People can believe absolutely, 100% factually incorrect things. It happens every day.

You too? :p Though I always spent a lot of time on the old Apple 2 computer when I was little so I don't think people thought I was retarded...just quiet. :/

EDIT: Well, then lucky me that I'm so absolutely on the other side of the spectrum as her that I can't even think at all the way she does, or even begin to understand the way she thinks. :p

Plus, Cheetah Boy got a C on his report card, and I don’t want to reward him with anything until that grade comes up.

I personally don't understand why parents punish kids/teens for low marks... kinda understandable if they've really been slacking, but if that's just the mark they got despite doing all their homework/going to school? That's not the answer.

When I got a B+ on a halfway progress report, my dad acted like it was the end of the world. A B+. Not even on an official report card.

I agree though. If your kid is actually failing, the school will punish them anyway by making them repeat the grade or class(es), so adding more punishment at home seems silly and unneeded. Otherwise, I say reward good grades but don't punish bad grades.

It's not even that. Taking away privileges for (perceived) poor marks doesn't exactly boost a kid's morale. I mean, a C isn't great, but it's not horrid either. Kid's not failing. Maybe he doesn't deserve any gifts or rewards, but it's not like he's committed one of the seven deadly sins either.

The issue about people that often complain about video games corrupting society is that they seem to be very simple-minded. This mother (and others militantly anti-video game) seems to believe that anybody that takes up video games as a pastime is ultimately screwed in all regards of mental and physical efficiency.

Yes, there are people whom have had their lives ruined to some extent by video games. I will admit that my own addiction to video games has left me ignorant in many regards, and that I'm very weak physically and mentally. Although it's had huge detrimental effects on me, does this actually hold true for everybody? I've known people to play far more games than I, and they've displayed a great amount of intellect and ability to persevere in life. And, as aforementioned by Gabu, there are benefits to playing them; increased reaction time, hand+eye coordination, etc.

Sadly, despite my ignorance, I seem to be able to think outside of the box, which the average person has proven to be incapable of doing—and for this, I am disappointed. It really makes me question my intellect and reevaluate my definition of "intelligent".

Furthermore, this woman complains about kids lacking the ability to think critically? Uh, miss, you're forming your opinion based solely on all of the bad facts you've absorbed, and not taking into account all of the good, which is a great example of not thinking critically.

Are people seriously this closed-minded? Or are these biased outrages a ploy to manipulate the people that actually are?

But to punish for a B+ or something, as was the case for Terra? (Not even an end-grade, either!) Fucking ridiculous. Parents should be ashamed to do shit like that. What would really help is actually assisting the kid as they study, not punishment for not having an A+ in the class.

As usual, the issue with a new form of media/anything popular is lazy-ass parents.

Taking away random things as a blanket punishment for anything is a terrible idea.

There are many other factors that must be considered when determining why someone may be getting subpar grades in classes, and blaming sports the mall music television vidja gaems for society's problems is just dumb.

Oh well. Such is the age where people forget how to think.

I would love to see a reporter make an article like that after trying to programme a video game, nay programme the main menu for a video game.

This pisses me off greatly. First of all, these parents complaining about this should think. When they were young, what were they doing? Getting smashed? Getting High? Sticking it to the parents? I bet their parents didn't like that either. It's just life.
Also someone commented about gen-y slang being because of video games. Well, this may shock people, but if there were no such thing as slang we would still be talking like fucking shakespeare. IT'S LIFE. Get over it, and just because ONE GRAND THEFT AUTO ADDICTED kid has no life, doesn't mean we all don't. Infact, I have been playing games all of my life, And I am in the 'gifted' class at school. SO THANKS, SATAN.
