Hopefully, this will be a chance for the legal system to shine. Prejudice and discrimination have no place in law, so let's hope this makes a change for the best.

Yes, hopefully it will become the Loving v. Virgina of our generation. We'll have to wait quite a bit though, since it will most likely be appealed all the way to SCOTUS, this could take long...

I don't even get why they have a trial in the first fucking place, it should just be removed. Laws like these are stupid as fuck.

It's on Twitter for now: http://twitter.com/AmerEqualRights

Although, we might see confirmation from other news outlets later today...

How does that even begin to work in his mind. That's simple math! If I have an apple, and I add more apples to it, I have more apples total. Now substitute the word marriage for apple and it would be the same!

YEAH THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE MY DEAR!

I almost feel bad for the anti-gay side if this is all they have to represent them. :/

Let's just hope this keeps up, from what I've read on Twitter, day one has been pretty awesome for the pro-gay marriage side.

The trial is expected to last three weeks, according to Wikipedia.

I feel that same-sex marriage should be legalized nationwide... especially since I'm a lesbian myself, and I feel that all people, straight, gay, or otherwise should have the same rights everywhere

There are conflicting issues with gay marriage, like last names (for example, does the younger partner take the older one's last name, or do they both hyphenate, or does neither name change?)... but I'm sure it'd be up to the partners for decisions like that

Still, the pro-gay side must keep up with this, because we might finally reach a conclusion

Yes. People have this weird thing for noticing bigotry and (hopefully) despising it. Would it be okay to you if somebody want to be friends with somebody because they're black? Or maybe because they're Protestant instead of Catholic?

It's bullshit. And everybody should see that.

I agree. That's what I was already saying. Although mentioning colors is a little inappropriate in this context; lifestyle choices can be changed and undone, just like Protestant people can randomly decide to go back to the Catholic church or vice versa. It's not like people can go back and forth in their skin color, or have an undecided/undetermined skin color status. That was a poor example.

It's actually more than that, ie. being homosexual barely scratches the surface of the list of things I'd rather never see. Example: MSG is another thing that I feel strongly about, but I don't usually run around saying "I hate you all if you eat at McDonalds!!"

I chose a broad example to try to include everyone--so you should know that I dislike everybody equally; ie. if life was a SSBB game, I wouldn't need to ask about your religion and I wouldn't judge by your character color, I'd just throw something at you. (I'm not saying we can't all get along; I'm saying the playing field is even.)

Please, tell me you're not suggesting that sexual orientation is a lifestyle choice.

The thing is, homosexuality is a natural thing, and it's been observed in other animals as well

It's just that the religious conservatives like to force everyone to be straight

So what, if you become friends with someone, and they come out of the closet later on, you're just going to say "Sorry, we can't be friends anymore because you're a FAG"? Despite, for example, you two having become best friends, having shared interests, having fun with each other all the time, you would lose a friend over their sexual preferences, something which has NO EFFECT ON YOU WHATSOEVER?

Just when I thought we were moving on as a species, just a little bit...

There is literally no basis--logical or otherwise--on which you can ban gay marriage. The only thing you could claim it to be against is certain religions, but in the United States there's a little thing called Freedom of Religion. Incidentally, there's also a little thing called Separation of Church and State. In other words, everyone is free to believe in any or no religion, and no single--or any, for that matter--religion is supposed to dictate the policies of the country. Period.

So... really, why this was ever an issue up for debate is completely beyond me. Glad to see that it might finally get settled for good. Any outcome other than it being ruled unconstitutional to ban should be considered a serious travesty and we should all be extremely worried about the dictation of future policies that violate basic human rights.

And fuck all of you shallow dipshits who feel uncomfortable around your friends just because they're gay. I mean, really? Fucking really? If you didn't know they were gay before and you enjoyed hanging around them before, then absolutely nothing will change with that sudden realization except that you might have to stop asking them whether they want to bang random chicks you like eye-raping on the streets. Get over yourselves.

Whoa whoa whoa hold the FUCKING phone.

You are saying that being homosexual is a lifestyle choice that you can change just like that?

Really? So I'm sexually attracted to women but not men, yet if I choose to do so I can switch that around with no problems whatsover?

That isn't a lifestyle choice. I can't just change what I'm sexually attracted to in a snap! Same applies to everyone else. If you can then you have a really good gift for pleasing your significant other by changing your sexual pleasures, but come on and be realistic. Nobody has that kind of power over their body. I sure as hell don't.

IRL this has actually happened to me. It was because he was attracted to me.

I can't say I've never lost a female friend due to non-mutual attraction. So it happens with guys too; no discrimination there.
