The issue about people that often complain about video games corrupting society is that they seem to be very simple-minded. This mother (and others militantly anti-video game) seems to believe that anybody that takes up video games as a pastime is ultimately screwed in all regards of mental and physical efficiency.
Yes, there are people whom have had their lives ruined to some extent by video games. I will admit that my own addiction to video games has left me ignorant in many regards, and that I'm very weak physically and mentally. Although it's had huge detrimental effects on me, does this actually hold true for
everybody? I've known people to play far more games than I, and they've displayed a great amount of intellect and ability to persevere in life. And, as aforementioned by Gabu, there are benefits to playing them; increased reaction time, hand+eye coordination, etc.
Sadly, despite my ignorance, I seem to be able to think outside of the box, which the average person has proven to be incapable of doing—and for this, I am disappointed. It really makes me question my intellect and reevaluate my definition of "intelligent".
Furthermore, this woman complains about kids lacking the ability to think critically? Uh, miss, you're forming your opinion based solely on all of the
bad facts you've absorbed, and not taking into account all of the good, which is a great example of
not thinking critically.
Are people seriously this closed-minded? Or are these biased outrages a ploy to manipulate the people that actually
are?
