That would be the sound my computer now makes every five minutes.
It's not a sound that I've heard before...but me thinks that it's the sound of my hard drive starting to fail. And this is the only 'computer' around the house that works, so that's obviously not a good thing. (PS3 for internet if that has to happen, but...) So can someone tell me if that's what is actually starting to happen / what I should check to make sure what is happening / (if it's something else) how to fix it?
(Need another computer anyways...this one is just outdated and I say there should be two computers in this house anyways)

I've also heard that when there was a wire too close to a fan. :/

I'd open up the tower and observe what happens inside when those noises happen. If it is coming from the hard drive, I'd get a second internal hard drive, copy everything on your failing drive while you still can, then switch the cables so that your system loads onto the new drive while the old one fails but the system is still safe.

It lasted me a good five years, though... although my old computer has also needed a CMOS battery change too
In your case, maybe the PC speaker is warning you that your motherboard or CPU is overheating. Try checking the power supply and fans, to see if they're working...
Wow. I've used a lot of very old computers. But none ever needed a new CMOS battery.
