Likewise, from what I can tell, many Firefox detractors use something like Opera or Chrome rather than IE as their browser

The only time I ever use something else is if I'm testing a webpage...

One of the main reasons I still use IE is because my computer can't handle Firefox.

Yea... Firefox requires a lot of RAM, since it's a memory hog... although you might want to try Opera if your system isn't very good

My second favorite after Firefox would probably have to be Opera as well (it's small and fast), but I haven't really bothered with Chrome ...

I still have Internet Explorer 6 and I'm not planning to ever upgrade it, since I never use it anyway

The last time I used IE for most browsing was in 2004. Then, I switched to Mozilla, then Firefox.

I always thought IE was less secure, but that was in the IE6 days. Then, Microsoft didn't update it for years and other browsers started adding more and more features.

I remember when Opera was ad-supported, too.

I've always wanted to try Chrome out, but I don't really want to download it since I already have a perfectly fine browser. Although, from what I hear it is pretty good.

Looking back, the only thing about IE6 I like is the interface. It's nice, simple, and easy. They messed up IE7 and IE8 by putting the menu below the address bar, but I know there's a registry entry out there you can download to move it back up to the top where it belongs.

Edit: Instructions to do it manually for IE8.

I used Netscape 4 until 2003, then switched over to Netscape 6 and 7... and finally moved to Firefox when that was released in 2004

I've never looked back from Firefox, although I did try Chrome and Opera, but always went back to Firefox

FireFox For The Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm forced on chrome right now because FireFox won't keep cookies... No matter WHAT I do... A fresh install fixes it for like 5 minutes...)

I didn't intend this topic to get this long so fast I was just wondering....

What I meant by 'Doesn't Move' is that he stays static on a page while I scroll, but when I refresh or go to a different page, he moves...

What is the code to get him to stay still like that? I would like to use it for an image on a website I am making...

If you don't tell me, I will just have to decipher this place's HTML code...

EDIT: Found It:

Chrome (I'm on 4.0.249.43) is, at least for me, a nearly rock-solid browser and blazing fast. It has a couple annoying quirks (Its cache doesn't always clear right, not fully conformant to W3C), but I still use it and like it a heck of a lot more than IE or FF or Opera.

I am SOOOOOOO glad that Microsoft finally got their act together and lets us remove IE!!!!!!!! (It still leaves the rendering engine in-tact though... For system processes... Like Windows Update, etc... And for rendering CHM files...)

My school program goes NUTS when it can't find 'c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe'... I am trying to force FireFox on it....

In case you don't know, to remove IE from 7, go to: Control Panel / Programs and Features / Add or Remove Windows Components (or was it features?) / Uncheck Internet Explorer... Click OK, and it will uninstall it and restart your computer... It will act like a sane computer again!

Also, because of the auto-complete in the address bar, most of the time, you have to hit backspace twice to backspace a character...

As far as the original topic goes, I forget that it's there unless someone makes one of these threads.

I haven't used IE in about 2 years since I purchased this computer. Once I heard that IE was crap and gets crappier with every version, I switched to Firefox and have browsed easier ever since.

Hmmm, someone added a second Ikachan to this thread, which always stays in the same place.

I like the Firefox 3 address bar. Before that, you had to know the subdomain of a Web site to pull up its URL, so I was like "Is it forum, or board, or community, or no subdomain?" when looking up a board.

My trusted Netscape 4 was starting to have problems by 2003, so I had to switch to Netscape 7, which I used until Firefox was released in 2004

Still, I did get a lot of mileage out of that old Netscape web browser

IKECHAN!!!! And now that that's done. I use Chrome for general browsing and it's pretty effective. I use Chrome prettymuch just for ChaCha.
